hey,

Do any of you play a Jazzmaster?

I think their great looking guitars but their not real popular guitars and i've heard some mixed oppions about them.

Anyway- please tell me your thoughts on them.

thanks

Re: Fender Jazzmaster

Owned an old '66 Jaguar when I was a kid, same body different electronics. Very comfortable and it played real well but I couldn't stand the vibrato.

Re: Fender Jazzmaster

I have a Warmoth Jazzmaster body... SOOO comfortable. I'm not so keen on the standard JM electronics/p'ups so I went built from scratch. Worked out cheaper with exactly the p'ups (SD's! :) ) , switching. and neck I wanted.

It's worth considerin'

I agree. My first pro guitar was a '64 demo Jaguar. I could have had a demo '64 Strat but I was just a kid and the Jaguar had more buttons to push! Never really cared for the tone of either the Jaguar or Jazzmaster tho. The Jazzmaster has pretty weak, plinky sounding pickups, IMO. And as Wattage mentioned, the vibrato just doesn't make it.

Get a Strat.

Re: Fender Jazzmaster

I like the looks of the Jazzmaster (especially with a CBS headstock :32: ) but that's about it. I'd get one with P-90's or humbuckers.. never dug the stock Jazzmaster pickups.

Same here. Those things were never popular for a reason. I've never been able to get any decent sounds out of either one.

Re: Fender Jazzmaster

Personally I love the sound of both the JM and Jag ... but I can't bring myself to pay that much for a guitar with a trem where the string keeps popping out of the saddle when I play.

Eventually a Warmoth JM is in the works ... albeit a hardtail

Re: Fender Jazzmaster

i would like to get a hard tail jazzmaster (warmoth or something like it) and have some overwound pickups with normal switching like a tele or les paul. I think with a few mods a jazzmaster would be a great guitar to have.

Definately, I would certainly want to go with a hardtail (I've heard plenty of horror stories about the trem).

Re: Fender Jazzmaster

OK, I have both a Jaguar and Jazzmaster!

You will need a Buzzstop, suggest that you change the bridge to a Mustang bridge.

Change to SD pups.

Tone after these changes - - - Lenny!
