If anyone out there can wire me the money tomorrow, I'll pick it up, sell it, and split the profit. 100% trustable.

Re: Fender lovers, look at this! Holy Crap!

That thing is to all intents and purposes the same age as me. I need another birthday present for next week...

Re: Fender lovers, look at this! Holy Crap!

Wow, what a bargain! I dealt with a guy who finds gear for the famous and just 2 years ago he got a '64 Strat for Pete Townsend and he paid £35,000!!

Re: Fender lovers, look at this! Holy Crap!

Very nice! I wanna buy it, throw away that pickguard, put in some humbuckers, and rock!

So sad to see its a triple burst ;) But that is awesome nonetheless!

Re: Fender lovers, look at this! Holy Crap!

Is Craiglist really the kind of place where people sell such rare, collectible and valuable items ? I would have thought if you had a guitar to sell worth that much money, you'd do so via a reputable guitar store, broker or some other more 'upmarket' option.

I'd be seriously concerned about it being a fake, and from my understanding of craiglist, my concerns would be heightened, not reduced.

It does look 'very' clean even considering its professed history

Cool piece but 19k?! Not in this market...I mean it's clean and all original but I don't see him getting much more than 15.5-16k for it in this market and there sure ain't no money to be made to buy and resale that one!

Players grade Strats from that period have dipped below 10k these days!

Re: Fender lovers, look at this! Holy Crap!

Older guitars are cool but I could never see spending a lot of money on one - at least not that much. Despite what some people would have you believe, modern guitars are simply better constructed. With modern CNC machining guitar companies are able to offer really well made instruments, often at very good prices. Match that 62 Strat in the pic with a new Strat & putting it's 'vintage mojo' aside, I believe the modern Strat would be a better guitar in many ways.

To each his own of course. :)

The surgical tubing should have rotted away.

Meh, if im buying an old guitar i want it to have been played. That thing looks like its never left the house.

Yeah, it's hard to say what someone's willing to give you for the definitive early 62, considering it's one of Fender's most notable strat years.

I can't buy it, but I'd sure rather have that sitting in my closet than a 20K stock certificate from just about any corporation.

Re: Fender lovers, look at this! Holy Crap!

That chip just about kills it..I'd want to know more, much more. Crusty is right on with his apprehension, and as far as TGWIF..are you sure, Sir? A 62 strat below 10K? Absurd even beat to heck or refin. In that condition ( minus the value concerning neck chip) , Your looking at around 17.5 low end IF you can score a killer deal), 26K high end.I'd say 21K is a deal for that Strat, again though, that chip is just NOT where you want it to be. I think some guys here are right. Its like someone took the original neck off this guitar, and found another rosewood, and in the process, becasue of the tight neck pocket fit, butchered the neck pocket..something like that?

There is some merit to looking for a worn played Strat, but that was usually one back before they became thrashed and refine'd so often . Now you want to fine the best condition.
What leads me to believe this is legit is the original case candy. You don't see 90% of the time that with a fake.
Book value; Exc.: 23K low 33K high. Sure its a soft market, but increasingly less so for old Strats- ya just don't see em no more.
With that neck pocket chip, I'm gonna say its worth about 14-17.5K if it turns out to be just a chip, not a split in the wood.

The thing is..no one knows how to buy these old guitars anymore in general. A dealer? hopefully..but you'll pay high bluebook. A private seller? Good luck! You'll get burned more often than not..MUCH more often, in fact, you'll get dicked, pretty much, period.
Buying them is as much of an art as anything anymore.

Please tell me you would'nt really do that to an old original vintage Strat. You wouldn't route an original 50's-60's Strat?

Re: Fender lovers, look at this! Holy Crap!

I wonder if some of the crack this guy is smoking is included in the "case candy"? I mean, come on. How can anyone be sure this is legit? The neck looks like it's a modern style with the " Original Contoured Body" stamp on the headstock. And the Fender logo looks like my '97 logo, I thought back in the day the headstock had that big long STRATOCASTER logo across the headstock. And the neck pocket damage is definitely suspicious. I've had a lot of guitars and I've never seen that, it's not in a "high wear area" .....very suspicious. My dad's '64 Hagstrom was used for recording records and live playing to the point that it needs all new frets (there's none left, lol) and it doesn't have any wear in that spot.

Re: Fender lovers, look at this! Holy Crap!

I smell a fake here! The poster obviously knows too much about what a guitarist is looking for, right down to taking it apart for pics. IMHO, if he knows that much about the features, he wouldn't have it on CraigsList.

Re: Fender lovers, look at this! Holy Crap!

I just think it's odd that a guitar with such value (if it's real) would be put up for sale on craigslist.

Why not offer it to guitar center or take an ad out in the paper or something like that?

As a general assumption, people shopping on craigslist are looking for deals... not $19000 for a guitar.
