Fender Mustang III

Hello.....anyone have any reviews/opinions on the Fender Mustang III. Wondering if it would be a good amp to give me some Gn'R, Buckcherry sounds, I'm just a hobbyist who plays with a drummer in my garage. Also, is the downloadable pre-sets any good?

Thx

Re: Fender Mustang III

You might want to take a look at this recent thread. I've got a Mustang II on its way. Should be fun to play with. The III seems to have an upgraded speaker as well as an LCD display panel for some of the presets. Of course, if you do a little research, you'll find that you can hook up your computer and adjust and change the presets to make you happy.

All this coming from a guy that builds tube amps. Nothing wrong with a little solid state modeling love.

The Mustang will do a lot of things for you at the garage band level. The Fender amp models are superb, in my opinion. For hard rock stuff, you'll love the Super Sonic mode.

There are some pretty good downloadable sounds, but you might have more fun tweaking the amp models yourself. The Fuse software it comes with is great and gives you amp tweaks like "bias", "sag" settings, tons of speaker cab emulations to play with and there are a bunch of effects are really good overall.

Re: Fender Mustang III

I have the Fender Mustang III and I love it! I get alot of different tones from it and can play with her all day. You won't find a better amp under $300.

Re: Fender Mustang III

Thanks for the info, much appreciated!! Probably will pick one up this weekend. Do any of you guys know if there is some good presets for playing Gn'R songs? If so, can you tell me the names of them?

Thx again

Re: Fender Mustang III

As soon as you download the Fuse program, you finds loads of them in the "community".

Re: Fender Mustang III

i really freakin like these things

best tube emulation i've heard out of a modeler besides Vox Valvetronix (which cheats by actually using tubes :smokin:) and it comes with Fuse and Ableton -- holy ****ing crap if I had that **** in high school I would've recorded a dozen albums by now.

the I and II are EXCELLENT practice amps -- the III and IV probly sound better than most dudes playing out on 100w tube heads they can't crank up.

i'm still stoked using my Marshall Class 5 for bedroom practice since i've been playing for 10 years and accumulated tons of pedals and crap to get all the tones i want...but i've been putting off buying recording equipment for years because i just knew somebody would make something better and cheaper than what's been out.

between the quality of the sounds, variety of sounds, the downloadable extras, and the free recording software...every new guitarist gets one (i refuse to ring-up a Line 6 Spider or Peavey Vypyr until going over every detail of the Mustang) and most experienced players could probably use one.

i was gona get a Line 6 M13, an interface, and some software to make it all work and get some recordings done...now I can go buy the $99 Mustang and **** it.

Re: Fender Mustang III

Nothing but positive reviews.......think i will definitely pick one up! Can't beat the price!!

Re: Fender Mustang III

I made my wife laugh by putting on the "Twin Surf" preset and did a really bad Dick Dale lick and it was convincing enough I guess. The Twin models are nice if you really want to know what your GUITAR sounds like. Crystal clean, unless you crank the gain, like their supposed to be. There are variations like the Princeton and Deluxe Reverb, as well as the Twin. They all sound like I remember the real ones sounding.

The British 80's (JCMxxx) is starting to grow on me. You can't get anything =VH= with the "British 70's (Plexi?)" but you can with the JCM model. It has the bite and if you set the "sag" to max and boost the mids it's very "Plexi"-ish. Try the "Metal 2000s (6505)" ...the harmonics are INSANE on that one. It's almost comical.

Re: Fender Mustang III

Now I'm starting to wonder if I should have got the III over the II that arrives today. haha...

Re: Fender Mustang III

Anyone have the Slash Alnico II pickups and using this amp? Ifso, is there any presets that will get me close to songs such as 1) Back from cali 2) Ghost 3) Mr Brownstone, I know thay are all similar but they do have their subtle differences. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!!

Re: Fender Mustang III

I think I'm buying the III soon, glad to see all the positive reviews. I've heard nothing but good things so far everywhere I look.

Re: Fender Mustang III

Did some trading and got one yesterday. So far it really is unbelievable. I cant wait to try it with the band and see how it hangs. I'm pretty sure its going to do well. The Brit 80's amp is killer.
