Fender neck shapes

Re: Fender neck shapes

Thats the shape of the back of the neck. warmoth.com has great pics of different neck contours conpared to standard fender necks.

Re: Fender neck shapes

Its the backside shape of the neck... the part where you wrap your hand around... so if you'd cut the neck parallel to a fret and look at the side where you cut it, you'd see the shape... U is a deeper C and V is a bit more... ehm ... unround

Re: Fender neck shapes

P.S. I believe C means the neck has a rounded shape. V I believe means the neck kind of comes to a point. D is a flat neck like the Wizard 2.

Re: Fender neck shapes

This should give you an ideo what the shapes should look like, although these are quite extreme examples.. especially the v.. (this is why Fender alway says "soft v shape")

Re: Fender neck shapes

Thanks alot guys. These neck shapes are just personal preference as to the feel of them, they don't affect tone, right?

the shape does not matter, but some guys will argue that the size of the neck will affest tone...I am one of those guys!

Re: Fender neck shapes

A C neck is a typical American Standard. The Clapton sig model is a good example of V.
My preference is for the fattest C shape I can find. They roll off the assembly line with slight variances, but I always gravitate toward the chunkiest C I can get my hands on.
They feel better and sound better, IMO.
