Fender Newporter Acoustic

I've been looking for a half diesent acoustic for a while now having never owned one, and theres one close to me for sale on ebay. And i'm thinking/hoping it will go for cheap.

I went and checked it out, but couldnt really give it a good play as the guy who was selling it had noisy/crazy kids, and one of the strings on it was broken. The other 5 strings sounded pretty good though. Its made in Korea, and its barely been played.

So basically, has anyone had any experience with these guitars, what did you like/didnt like about them.....does it play well, does it intonate well? I liked the neck on it actually, was fairly similar to a strat neck (but maybe that was more of a psychological thing, as it also has a strat headstock on it).

Thanks if you can help.

Also, i'd be looking to put a pickup on it somewhere down the track......is it worth doing this, or am i better off moneywise to buy something with a pickup already built into it instead??? Thanks.

Re: Fender Newporter Acoustic

Honestly I was just recently in your place. I dunno what your spending range is. But, it is much more worth your while to get an acoustic with a pup already installed. If you haven't checked them out already I would say look into Breedlove's Atlas series if you can spend between $700-$800. They are AMAZING acoustics. They are made in Korea. The US made ones are a little more spendy. But, they have nice necks and good warm tones. As well as fishman pups. Otherwise I would give takamine a shot. The lower end ones ($300-500) are not usually solid wood but they sound decent and most come with pups. If you can give me more info on what your looking for then let me know and I will try and help some more.
