Fender noiseless n3 pickups vs Seymour Duncan Jimi Hendrix set

I just bought my first fender, after years of playing Les Paul's and SG's. I know all about humbuckers but nothing about single coils. About a year ago I seen a video of the Hendrix set and was really impressed. I'm happy with the noiseless pickups but I was just wondering what the difference would be.

Well, you will get a glassier high end, but a return of single coil noise. If you are after authentic late 60s tones, though, the Hendrix set is wonderful for that.

If you're talking about the Fender Noiseless set, the Hendrix SD set is probably going to be a little more aggressive. Did you buy/install the noiseless set or did they come with the Fender you purchased?

I bought the guitar used but I'm pretty sure they came with it.

Man, if they're a real-deal Fender Noiseless pickup set, I'd be hesitant to change them out. If you do, make sure you keep them. The Noiseless sets are excellent.

As for how they would compare with the SD Hendrix set, I think you'd just get a little more grit and dirt on the Hendrix singles. Hope this helps.

The main question is what you are hoping to gain by switching. Is there a sound you want that you are not getting? Or are you just hoping for 'better'?

I really loved the bluesy sound I heard in a video awhile back. But other than that I like how the guitar sounds now. So mainly just looking for a better.

Re: Fender noiseless n3 pickups vs Seymour Duncan Jimi Hendrix set

My thought is just looking for 'better' isn't reason enough to change, especially if you like the current pickups.

Re: Fender noiseless n3 pickups vs Seymour Duncan Jimi Hendrix set

I prefer the Seymour Duncan Stacked Single coils -all the beauty of a Single coil -none of the noise.

Not a big fan of the Fender Noiseless -somethings missing from them for me.

I will say that the Classic Strat Stack are my favorite Strat pickups, period.

Agreed. I think going from the Noiseless to the Hendrix set would be a lateral move at best.

Re: Fender noiseless n3 pickups vs Seymour Duncan Jimi Hendrix set

i like the duncan classic stacks plenty, and think they are better than the fender offerings but a real single coil is where its at for me. the hendrix set probably sounds great but i havent tried them yet. id expect they might be a bit brighter, clearer and spankier. the specs suggest they are probably fairly bright and clean but again, i havent heard them in person.

Re: Fender noiseless n3 pickups vs Seymour Duncan Jimi Hendrix set

What are the specs on the Hendrix set? DCR, magnets, wire, etc.

Re: Fender noiseless n3 pickups vs Seymour Duncan Jimi Hendrix set

according to the duncan page, they are 6.07k and reverse stagger alnico 5. from what ive seen, it looks like formvar wire, safe to assume #42

Not everybody likes John Mayer, but I dig his quote about 60 cycle him being like the sound of someone breathing.

Thank you. The interesting thing is they mention the set:
“The bridge model has an aggressive attack that cuts through while staying true to his iconic lead tone. The neck pickup sounds thick and full and is great for chord work, bluesy melodies, double-stops and Jimi’s signature hybrid chord/melody style.”

I initially thought that meant a different bridge wind, but I guess that’s how all Strat sets sound with the same wind. Cut in the bridge, fat in the neck.

Re: Fender noiseless n3 pickups vs Seymour Duncan Jimi Hendrix set

yeah? like i said, no first hand experience with this set. could be the bridge uses different wire or the specs are misleading or the wind pattern is different for each position but all have the same # of turns or ??? seems like a cool set though

Re: Fender noiseless n3 pickups vs Seymour Duncan Jimi Hendrix set

i do too but i just wound myself four strat pups so should really put those in before i buy anything else :)
