Fender or Marshall amp preferred for Strat?

Re: Fender or Marshall amp preferred for Strat?

I like a Twin for a clean and I like my Super for cleanish/ OD strat tones. I get some really great Hendrix type tones with that Super, a strat, and a TS. Not the Jimi Fuzz type tones, but the fat bluesy breakup Jimi tones. Those are the tones I really love. The DLS mk3 in super bass mode really is nice in this application too. I can imagine using a fuzz in front of that DLS into a Fender amp would be mighty fine too.

Desert Island choice is Strat into Deluxe Reverb Blackface . Otherwise, I'll go with the grail; Tweed 4x10 bassman/JTM 45 marshallo which is the same basic amp, your just deciding about Celestions vs. Jensens.
Super Reverb over non-Plexi JMP, although I could be quite happy either way..

I prefer Marshalls for just about everything, but given the chance, I would not pass up the chance to own a vintage Fender Vibroverb or Princeton Reverb.

Most of the time, I like a bright, yet warm ("juicy"), tone without too much distortion – only enough so that it breaks up when you hit the strings hard, not so that it always sounds compressed and fuzzy regardless of how you attack the strings. I like the sound to be hard when I hit hard, and to be mild when I hit mild, not to sound the same regardless of how I hit the strings. I really like single-coil Strats through Fender amps, and don't much like them through most Marshalls. With humbuckers, OTOH, I love Strats through Marshalls. In each of these cases, the natural tendencies of the amp counterbalance well with the natural tendencies of the pickup. Fender amps warm up Strat pickups, and Marshall amps thin out and brighten humbuckers. Both are good things IMO. All that said, it's difficult to generalize Fender amps and Marshall amps, because there are so many different models of each.

For a long time I used a super reverb AND a Marshall 900 A/b'd. Worked great but a lot of crap to carry. Nowadays when I am playing out(usually in small clubs). I use an old Deluxe Reverb and a tube screamer

As I remember - as the 70s came, the Marshalls started sounding a little brighter. Think one element was the coupling caps were smaller and a .68uF bypass cap on V2.
