Fender telecaster : Special FMT vs Standard HH

They both have a coil split and are both hh models.
The only real difference I guess is where they are made (standard in mexico) and (special in Indonesia) also the woods are different. The standard in alder body with maple neck, and the special is all mahogany with maple top.
Anyone have any idea about either of these?
I would change the pickups on whichever I got so sound does not really matter, however I am into grunge, hard rock and metal.
Thanks!

I think alder and maple sounds good for hard rock. If it were me, I'd choose that over the mahog.

Just to clarify, I think I would change the pickups to a custom in the bridge and a jazz in the neck

The FMT is a great guitar. Don't worry about the made in Indonesia thing. I own MIM and MII Teles and the build quality is about the same stuff and very good. Being all mahogany, thin body, 2x humbucker and flat board radius in spite of it's profile and Tele shape the FMT is very much akin to a Gibson SG without the neck heavy issue. If you go with the FMT my advise is don't change the pups until your give the Duncan Pearly Gates+ and 59 a chance.

You might want to play one first. The FMT neck is very thin and combined with the flat radius, it felt more like an Ibanez Rg more than any Tele.
I always wanted one, but stopped when I played one in a store.

I'd go with FMT. It needs no upgrade. Add right pedals and amp and you can play hard rock, grunge, and metal with it. PG+ is tight enough for chugging

The FMT would be more LP/SG-like due to the construction, so that would be my choice. I don't know what it couldn't cover. BTW, the Custom and Jazz are great choices.

Thanks the only thing with the fmt is that I already have a les Paul 50s tribute so am looking for a fender as a slightly more beat around guitar

Re: Fender telecaster : Special FMT vs Standard HH

Well, if that's the case, go with Tele HH then. And get Alt8 in the bridge and Screamin' Demon in the neck. It's versatile rock - metal pickup combo. Heck, I play jazzy stuff with Demon in the neck.
