welcome to the forum!

You might want to change that username ;)

Re: Fender The Twin(red knob)

I remember in the mid-late 80's when they were selling at GC for $769. They were considered an improvement over the Twins of the past, due to more features and gain.

Your user name reminded me more of a pink knob, than a red knob though. LOL

Re: Fender The Twin(red knob)

I think the Red Knobs sounded fine. Just have a Tech hard wire a switchcraft input jack into it at the 1st sign of trouble.

Re: Fender The Twin(red knob)

I loved those 80's Twins!!!! Good Hot Rodded Fender tones for the 80's music lovers like me!!!

Re: Fender The Twin(red knob)

I loved them but at the same time they were very much of their time

The sound and distortion TOTALLY reminds me of a RIVERA Knucklehead Series I that I just sold off. Very good, but kind of grainy, NOT fizzy, but grainy, with a soft mid content compared to a Marshall. For clean they have that modern R&B sound to them which is very clean and funky, as well as tight. The lows on those amps are nice. I like the way they sound with a fat pedal. I used to love them with an old SD1.

Aren't those Red Knob Jobs SS Amps???
I had a deluxe Red Knob, a SS Gem.
This one most definitely isn't.

I had one several years ago - got it from a guitar store that was going out of business. I think I paid $400 for it. It was a great amp but all I had to play through it was a cheap Epiphone strat, and I could never get any good sound out of it. I couldn't fully appreciate it, so when I got in a bind with money in college I sold it. Man I wish I had it back.

Re: Fender The Twin(red knob)

I think your right on about the amp sounding like a Rivera.Ithink i read somewhere that the dude who disigned the redknob Fender Was the same dude who makes Rivera Amps; Owner ,C.E.O or w/e he is now ?Correct me if im wrong??

Re: Fender The Twin(red knob)

What do you think about connecting a 4x12 marshall cab. to the red knob? Is this too much tone for an old dude-a saurus!

I think you're insane!! We should get along quite nicely. :D

Re: Fender The Twin(red knob)

Here's all you need to know about a red knob Twin: On his rider, Robben Ford insists on them when he can't bring his Dumble. He says it's absolutely the next best thing.
As for the Rivera connection, I don't know exactly what's going on in the red knob Twin, but it came out after Paul Rivera left Fender. He designed the Twin II (as well as the Super Champ and the Sidekick).

Hi daddy! Who's my daddy you are !!

Re: Fender The Twin(red knob)

I could be mistaken on this but, I seem to recall that the Red Knob Twin has a basic Twin circuit for the Normal channel. Plays nice, clean and loud--just like an old Twin, and has great reverb.

I was the Distortion side where things got a little nasty. I THINK that the tone circuit MIGHT be ACTIVE tone controls, rather than Fender's usual passive controls. Some of the other amp companies were doing things this way, like Peavey's Heritage VTX, with ACTIVE TONE CONTROLS in the Lead Channel. Fender's catalogs promised a lot with this amp, but I think the opinion of most players would be that the Lead Channel is.....disappointing. Fender's distortion circuits have usually been sub-par.

As one of the Poster's here pointed out, there have been some problems with these amps--like the jacks. Some of the cabinets on these amps might be particleboard rather than plywood, and that could lead to some problems, too. All-in-all, the RK Twin is a good basic combo--especially if you ignore the Lead Channel and rely on pedals for your distortion tones.
