Fender US HSS Strat with Floyd Rose...?

THere doesn't seem to be on in the current Fender range...A friend of mine is after a maple-boarded Floyd Rose Fat Strat, and unless he gets lucky on eBay, he's going to struggle.

My question is, what do you guys think are the best alternatives, bearing in mind that he likes the traditional look of the Strat.

I think I've persuaded him to give the Japanese Fenders a look, but what do you guys think?

kramer or charvel, you can source a charvel with the Fender asthetics and a floyds easier than a Fender.

there was a threat a few days ago about charvels new production line, those looks pretty sweetand way affordable.. and if you got the money for it a custom San dimas might be what your after, and i love how they keep the fender strat look

it's a pickguard and pickups away from being whatever he wants it to be.

Re: Fender US HSS Strat with Floyd Rose...?

There's always the Fender MIM Floyd Rose Strat, but they have a rosewood board.

ya for the bucks those MIM Floyd strats are pretty good.... mind you the floyd is a copy of the Schaller soft base floyd... and the neck is 21 frets but still for the bucks i'd buy one myself...

but the new Charvels have my vote...

Re: Fender US HSS Strat with Floyd Rose...?

PS another route i've been looking at for a FRO strat is the Warmoth route

Re: Fender US HSS Strat with Floyd Rose...?

Another big 'n' loud +1 for the Charvel So-Cals. I'm seriously gassing for one as well (only have no use for it.. dang :D).

holy crap!!!!!!!

i want one so bad. This is news to me. Anyone know of any sound clips floating around? I have always wanted a guitar with a floyed and I love strats...

Re: Fender US HSS Strat with Floyd Rose...?

That's cool that they're alder and $1000, going head to head with an Am Std Strat.

Nice to see they're not gouging for closer to $1700.

I'd probably ditch those DiMarzios and try out something I haven't tried before like Mustaines.

I'm willing to bet that in terms of parts and build, they differ very little from a current Am Std Strat. I'm sure they use the same body, just routed for a Floyd. The neck is probably the same as well aside from the compound radius board. They're both made in the same factory, so it would make sense that they have a lot in common.

I don't see them as competing with the Fender line, more like supplementing it. Dudes who want to shred will go for the Charvel, and everyone else will go for the Fender. I see them as being competition for other locking trem bolt-on's, like the Ibanez RG.

Re: Fender US HSS Strat with Floyd Rose...?

They're certainly ticking all the right boxes for a rockin' Strat-type guitar. I'm tempted myself!!!!

Re: Fender US HSS Strat with Floyd Rose...?

The So-Cal in red reminds me of Allan Holdsworth's Charvels back in the 80's; except he used an ebony fretboard, had a vintage style trem and mounted his strap to the neck plate. I also think AH used his sig. Duncan pickups in his Charvels.
