Fender's New Upgraded Highway one guitars!!

Re: Fender's New Upgraded Highway one guitars!!

Nope. The first models had Satin Polyurathane finishes. Basically, a cheap matte finish.

Re: Fender's New Upgraded Highway one guitars!!

I like those new hi-way 1's too.
is the new finish more scratch resistant than the old kind?
and how much difference is there between alnico 2 and 3?
I have a fender lite ash strat with duncan alnico2 pro's.

I don't think so...the satan finish was pretty much a cheaper imitation of the Nitro finish. I like scratched guitars and that's basically the whole point of highway 1s.

you guys are having trouble loading it?
yeah it's all overkill on flash...just look at the product page.

No. The originals were a thin acrylic satin lacquer.

Anyways, I think those upgrades make those guitars more appealing. What was the appeal with the Highway 1 guitars before anyway? Just because they were cheaper?

BTW I'm having no trouble at all loading the flash page?

Re: Fender's New Upgraded Highway one guitars!!

For the guy that wanted to self-relic in a short period of time, the old Hwy 1's were perfect. I think that flat finish turned off way more guys that it excited. There was a "cheap" feel to it.

Re: Fender's New Upgraded Highway one guitars!!

The appeal of them originally was you get an American made guitar for a heck of a deal. The American Standard Strats and Tele's are pushing $1000 street price. The Mexican Standards are about $500 street price. The Highway 1's are in between those two and are American made with US bodies and necks but Mexican hardware and electronics. The thin satin finish allows the body to breathe more so they resonate really well. I've yet to play a bad one.

with the new thin mat Nitro finnishes i'm sure they will wear thin fast.... everyone will have the relic look in a few years i bet

These HWY1's are looking like a great deal!

I wonder if you could carefully polish the finnish on these HWY1's to a shin, or if it is so thin you'd polish thru the finnish

Re: Fender's New Upgraded Highway one guitars!!

I have a highway 1 tele that I bought from Scott_F and man I freakin love the thin finish on it! It's definitely one of my favorites, and I can't wait for it to start to wear in :)

Anyone know if USA (vintage-style) hardware will fit on a Highway 1?

Yes they should fit....

That's cool...I was thinking that Mexican hardware had different specs and didn't know if the Highway 1's were truly 'Mexican' hardware with those specs or if they have 'cheaper' hardware with USA specs.

Make any sense?

They have the Mexican Deluxe hardware, I should have stated that (thanks to Mike - XSSIVE for pointing that out a while back), and that bridge has the same string spacing as American Vintage bridges. I hope that helps.
