I’d remove the pickup and put in a similar looking single coil bobbin only screwed to the body. It would sit out of your way, and if you ever decide to sell the guitar, it’s reversible so no damage done. Esthetically it’ll look like there’s still a pickup there even though there isn’t and it’s just the pickup cover.
