I sounds like that material is tonally neutral which basically means you can take the tone-shaping effect of body wood out of the equation (although they still have wood cores).
Whether that's a good or bad thing remains to be seen but from what I hear, a good amp and a couple of good effects can still result in a pretty good albeit clinical tone.
