Finally bought some recording gear

Well, I made a trip to Guitar Center because I got a $25 off gift certificate from them for my B-day and had to use it buy the end of the month. I was really going for the Line 6 TonePort but they were out of them and the salesman told me some interesting things about them that made me not want to buy them, so I ended up buying:

Tascam US-122 USB Audio/MIDI Interface w/ Cubase LE
AKG Perception 100 Large Diaphram Condenser Mic

I don't know squat about recording but the salesman that sold it to me said it was everything I needed to start recording with my new laptop. I know that in the future I might want to invest in some good monitors and different mics and such, but right now I just want to begin learing the basics. So is this gonna be everything I need for the moment and how good is the Cubase LE softwere?

That should be everything you need.

Cubase LE is just fine for your basic recording needs...I'd imagine that it'll be satisfactory for years to come.

Condenser mics aren't traditionally used to mic electric guitars, so if that's your main deal I would consider returning it for a dynamic microphone.

Condensers are usually used for acoustics, drums, some vocals, and whatnot.

Sounds like a good start. No one ever has a deceint large diaphram condenser mic so keep it. You may want to record vocals one day.

Pick up a SM57 for micing cabs.

I got on it today and learned the basics of laying down a track and the very simple operations. I think I saw some built in distortions and overdrives but I didn't try them out yet. I didn't think that mic I got was for close micing guitar amps but I am wanting to do quite a bit of vocal and acoustic stuff anyway so it will work for now. I'll pick up a SM57 here pretty soon for micing the amp. Right now I'm just wanting to do some vocal stuff to backing tracks for some family members then I'll get into the micing. I'm more of a singer than a guitar player anyway.
