No more boss in my effects chain! The last remaining boss pedal on my pedalboard is my tuner, and it's coming out of the tuner out on my volume pedal so I have no more Boss buffers in my effects chain. "Tone is good!"
Can you fill a newbie in on why boss suck your tone? And what type of pedals/effects don't suck your tone? Thanks
Ok... So Boss buffers are not necessarily the Devil, but depending on what effects they are coupled with you could get some less than stellar tones?
But a buffer is not a bad thing to have in the FX Chain?
How do pedal companies like L6, Voodoo Labs, Electro Harmonix or MXR compare? How much do they buffer the signal and what not? I know there are a lot more companies, but I'm trying to think of some more common names.
The only thing I know of for sure I just learned from Christian (the guy who invented fire). The Boss buffers do NOT play very well with germanium based effects. The buffers add treble which makes old school fuzz tones, and treble booster sound overly bright and harsh.

This is usually due to placing the buffered pedal before the fuzz/treble booster. If your chain is TB->Fuzz->other effects(including buffered stuff), you shouldn't have any problem. I have found that if you drive a fuzz face type with a buffered pedal it will sound bright, loud and will refuse to clean up with the guitar volume knob.
