Finally finished, ChAoZ - Eruption

That body is breathtaking. What a beautiful job. The purple heart really works with the maple.

Re: Finally finished, ChAoZ - Eruption

tricky..

I believe that any hand made instrument is worth more than a production unit, however people are very shy of paying what an instrument is worth..
the best starting point is to ascertain what a good guitar sells for, say a Strat as an example..
do you believe that your guitar is better in quality than a strat?
then price accordingly..

I made the mistake once of figuring out my hourly rate....

it worked out at around $3-$4/hour..

I then increased my pricing..

so now i work for the princely sum of $5-$6/hour...

people (customers) can be odd.. when you ask them what they get paid, they will tell you and cant believe anyone would work for such a low figure...

but....

They balk at paying the price if they applied their hourly rate to the cost of the instrument...

and that doesn't take into account the cost of timber and hardware....

soooo......

get what you can, buy more timber, make more and one day you may...may... actually get paid a fair and decent price for your instruments...

I'm still waiting by the way... after many, many years...

Peter, your guitars are worth way more than your selling prices. If my guitars were as nice as yours, there is no way I'd be selling them that cheap.

May I ask what the fret-size and material/brand be? And also how it's tuned and strung (type and gauges)?

Noticing the 4 springs made me wonder, although the claw is quite backed-out.

"Backed out"?! Looks tighter than most of my trems.

Holy cow!!!

Cutting and piecing together like a jig saw puzzle. Incredible work.

But it would be too humbling to realize that if you sold it for $5000 you'd probably only be working for $0.25 an hour. Preserve your sanity and DON'T do the math.

That wide belly relief could just about fit me.

Poly or lacquer? (I've been using poly much more lately for its greater durability. Harder to work with when doing multiple finishing coats, but also less likely to crack).
