Finally found my pickups for a Epi Dot

I got a Epiphone dot studio awhile back and since most everything I have has full shred's, distortion's or EMG's I wanted a more stripped down rock and roll guitar.

Put the old standard Jazz neck and Jb bridge in it but never really bonded with it as they sounded better than the stock epi pickups but really lacked something in the bridge. cleans through the jazz neck were fine but for overdrive or gain the bridge just didn't cut it. I asked around on here but most of the guys with 335's/dots play jazz or blues and don't use ultra high gain amps for their sound.

picked up a custom 5 on here barely used and wow, it really turned that thing around, can't stop playing it now. before my buddies bolt neck dot knock off sounded better and had less feedback than mine with the JB. Now i can crank it right up and it really rocks and it doesn't seem to feedback nearly as much.

I may try a ceramic or A2 mags just to see which I like best, and I have an alnico 2 pro to try in the neck, but the custom wind is awesome. Way better than a JB.

Much better alternatives are an A8 and UOA5. A2 makes it a CC, which has a pretty rounded high end (too rounded in many Gibson-design guitars), and ceramics are harsh (especially clean) and 'in-your-face'.

The C8 (C5 with an A8) is one of the best PU's for mahogany and semi-hollows. More mids than a C5. If you want more vintage dynamics and response, an UOA5 does that.

I have a C8/'59N in a Sheraton that sounds wonderful. And yes, a JB is the wrong PU in a 335.
