Finally got to play a LTD EC1000!!

Was awesome!! (See thru red one) Was horrifically out of tune so I asked the shop guys to let me use a tuner and tuned it up. Quite a nice player and Im amazed at how the active pups stay crisp and clear under High gain! Played back to back with other axes and the passive pups were dark and muddy.
I love the guitar, but actually enjoyed the feel of an EPI LP Custom (nicest EPi Ive ever played. Heavy and solid}that I also was playing. If the EPi had the tone pros, sperzels and EMGs, there would be no question.. But the LTD is hard to beat for the price..
Would you go with this one or the LP Custom (White) and add a Zakk Wylde pup set??

Yeah bro, I love those 1000 Deluxe series. They're great guitars for the buck...best LTDs out there.

I own an LTD with Duncans!

I've been considering buying the next level up, but those active EMGs aren't really my style, so it's put me off a little bit. They're quality pieces of kit, so pick one up!

Although, the current year's (2004) model EC-400 already has a set of EMG-81 active pickups in it. Those are the pup's Zakk uses right?

Doesn't one come with Duncans? I thought the see thru dark red came with an EMG 81 set and the burst finish EC1000 came with a 59n/JBb?

I've played a EMG loaded EC1000, too. It was a nice axe. Played well and the EMGs were singing pretty, but the last thing I needed was another big purchase on my Visa.

Yeah actives always stay really clear under hi-gain, the EMG81 always sounds ear pearcing on the high end and could get really annoyingly fuzzzzy. Had one for about a year too. I've played the same EC-1000, I was really suprised how light that guitar was. I have really heavy guitars, most of them being mahogany. Again I hated the EMGs, absolutely loved the neck a perfect fit for my hand, hated the bad upper fret acces though. This axe is stunning, and I was planning on getting one, but those two flaws really blew me off

he already uses one 81b-85n signature set.

i have one LTD ex 400 with emgs on it and i really love the tone of the guitar...400 and deluxe series are great guitars for the price.
i did´t want the construction they had a couple years ago (i bought one ex-250 that came broken...the bridge wasn´t totally screwed on the wood, and i had to give it back, and wait a whole year!!! till i could made a deal to get one 400 without paying anything) but this ones are real quality guitars, so go for the EC

btw if the guitar comes with EMG 81-set pickups you can buy the 85 neck pup and you have the zakk wylde set, but imo the best neck pup is the EMG 60, so i´d go for the LTD and buy the 60 neck...a real rocker

See my avatar! It's a great guitar for little money! If you like the emgs go for the red one... I, by far prefered the one with duncans in it... (I also thought it looked better than the other ones so I was blessed!)... LTD all the way!

These are pro level arent they? What's the story with the 400ATS? Has the earvana nut and grover keys and no tonepros. I want the sperzels and wish that came with the Earvana and the tonepros.. haha The Tonepros make much difference??

the earvana nut is terrific, stays in tune, strings stay for longer periods of time, and bends at lower frets are easier.


and yes, these guitars are pro leval. just look at all the bands that are using this guitar now!

Ive never seen it in any of the adds or product descriptions. Maybe the new models do. I love the sperzels and the emgs and tonepros the EC1000 offers, but Im tempted by the lower price and Earvana nut offered on the 400 Ats.
By the way, what is the diff between the 400 and 400ATS?

Yeah, and the price gap between the 1000 and the 400 isn't that much... For one with passive pick-ups it's not even 100$ if I'm not mistaking...
