Find Pierre an amp!

Pierre

Stratologist
I'm so tired of thinking left and right on what could be good for me...So since I may be able to order online for that, I figured I'd ask you guys... Here's what I want/need.

1) Loud enough for small gigs and band rehearsal, PORTABLE enough to bring to uni.
2) for use with pedals so with a decent clean channel and possibly footswitchable gain. The goal is to have it clean for bedroom, and very lightly distorted for live. I'd use boosts live and distortions in the bedroom.
3) under 250 British pound. That's 500 USD but everything here is twice as expensive :P

I'd go for the amp before the Strat. So I MAY be able to stretch to 300GBP.

Suggest away!

Ah by the way it's to use with a blues band :P So it needs a beautiful and probably a bit thicker than Fender like clean channel and a creamy overdrive if any. Though I use a lot of pedals so mostly decent cleans and headroom is good :)

Re: Find Pierre an amp!

Check out the Matamp Mini Mat, the Orange Tiny Terror, or the Laney LC15. You'll need a cab for the first two, mind.

Re: Find Pierre an amp!

2W would never be enough :( and yeah I can't do with a cab unfortunately. Otherwise the Minimat does seem cool as :D
Laney's first on my list :) Either a LC or a VC15... Thanks!

Serious, have you been to the England Rock's store in brighton by any chance? 2000 Pound Eric clapton sig strat, that same guitar is 1500 dollars at home. Rip Off. The T-Shirt i got there was 50 american bucks, i wear it at least once a week.

American Economy is pretty lame if we cant keep the value of our dollar anywhere near equal to a tiny little island.

Re: Find Pierre an amp!

Oh... um an amp. You could get a crate V1215, those are nice, or a Crate Powerblock. They sound pretty good. You would need a pedal to get blues gain though.

Heh, you couldn't be more wrong. I've blasted one through my 4x12 and man, that thing is way louder than you would expect. If you want it for at home and rehearsal, it can be mic'd for gigs. And picking up a marshall 1x12, wouldn't take you much over 300 quid.

Re: Find Pierre an amp!

Mhmm... Good point... But it'd need to do gigs too I guess. I honestly can't see 2W being loud enouh with a 112 for a band though. And it's not portable :(

Re: Find Pierre an amp!

A second hand Peavey Classic 30 might be right up your street too.

Re: Find Pierre an amp!

There is some wacko on many other forums asking the same question Pierre.

He even spells his name incorrectly on some of these forums. You know him? :)

Re: Find Pierre an amp!

The LC15 is a bit darker than the VC15 but the VC15 is built better (chassis mounted tubes). Neither is a high gainer. They both are loud, and with an added cabinet will push some air. But, the VC30 and LC30 are stronger amps, albeit with quite a bit of added weight.

Ok, I gotta go make fun of the imposter on other forums.

Re: Find Pierre an amp!

Valveking. It's tube and the price is right! You'll be using pedals anyway.
