I have tried alot of bass strings over the last 6-7 months and finally found what i like, now it's time for the next project, what's my favourite pick? This project will be alot cheaper i'll tell ya!

I wonder, what is your favourite picks? Brand, size, gauge etc

*EDIT:* I'm gonna use it on bass but that doesn't mean if you play guitar can tell me what picks you like :)

I use Jim Dunlop Black Stiffo Nylon Jazz III Picks

I do have a friend who plays bass and he likes Jim Dunlop Black Stiffo Nylon Jazz XL picks (on that same page from the website)

I also have another bass playing friend who likes Jim Dunlop Big Stubby's

So hopefully that's of some help to you.

Re: Finding the perfect pick

I'm a guitar player. I've tried numerous brands, thicknesses, shapes, and materials. My two favorites are the 1.0mm Dunlop Big Stubby, or the Clayton Ultem Tortoise .80mm rounded triangle shape.

1.14mm? BOY that's thick!!! .73 is the thickest I use for acoustic or electric... that, or .60s...

Re: Finding the perfect pick

I use Dunlop Ultex, don't recall the thickness.

OTOH, on bass, I'd probably want something a bit stiffer and more percussive so I'd probably go with butterfly picks.

I used to use 1.5mm gator grips before I discovered the jazz III's, I've known a few players that even used 2mm picks. Seems a little insane, but sometimes you need that extra thickness ;)

Re: Finding the perfect pick

Dunlop Tortex .73, 1.0 or 1.14. Depends on my mood. Mostly .73 though.

i used to use 2mm picks on guitar, but now (when i do use one) its like .70mm or so.

Re: Finding the perfect pick

On both guitar and bass I prefer the Herco Flex 75s. Next, Jim Dunlop 1mm nylon. Next, the Brain Cat's Tongue orange ones- but those are really pricey.

Re: Finding the perfect pick

I'm a greenie tortex man, myself.

That said, real bassists don't use a pick.

Re: Finding the perfect pick

Jim Dunlop 1.00MM tortex(standard shape)(blue ones) for electric. Dunlop .88 or .73mm tortex standard for acoustics.

For bass, I know a guy that uses 6.00MM dunlop big stubys and he love 'em.

Re: Finding the perfect pick

Everly Brothers .88 or 1.0 Standard Shape. They are the same as Dunlop tortex except, they have a star shaped hole in the middle for a better grip.

I use those but in .73 on electric and .60 on acoustic. They're awesome. You have the grip of tortex, but that little star, man, that's the sh*t right there.

Re: Finding the perfect pick

I used the green or purple tortex for a long time, but for the last year or so I've liked the Pickboy meta cabonate's in 1.0 mm. Great point for fast stuff, but they wear fairly quickly. Just tried the Dunlop ultex, great feel but miss the pointiness of the pickboy's.
