Finishing a fretboard??

Ola, my OLP has a maple neck and fretboard but the fretboard gets dirty extremely quick and u can scratch it with ur nail lightly and it will leave a mark. I do beleive it needs to have some sort of finish on it correct? What do I use and how do I do it?

Well, it doesn´t "need" a finish, but most maple boards are finished, but the Jackson PC-1 and Musicmans are the first that come to mind with raw boards....
