hello all....
so this is my first full build - a bass with a full bubinga body...the project is near ending, and i'm wondering, what finish should i put on this?
i'm wanting something fairly unobtrusive, just simply to protect and seal the wood and to change the appeance very little...any ideas??

heres what it looked like earlier this wk...

Re: finishing my new build...

If you want sheen without changing the look much, check into a waterborne clear of some kind. Waterbornes don't yellow with age and also don't pop the grain as much as solvent-borne finishes. I recently used a waterborne gym floor finish on a build (in my case it was over a blue-ish painted faux finish that I didn't want to turn green with age) and was very pleased with the results.

This looks amazing :o especially for a first build.. I would definitely use some darker wood finish but thats just me :)

thanks man :) yeah i am tempted to do what you've said tbh....but then i'm using black hardware so kinda like the contrast - will post a pic or 2 with the gear in place

Re: finishing my new build...

I will try true oil and wax, that will pop the grain of the wood.

thanks...i've seen on another forum that the tru wax kinda reduces the gloss to a satin?? satin is more like what i'm after - i'm not keen on it being overly glossy
