Firebird question

Re: Firebird question

Yeah, KMC.....kinda looks that way, but i will have to custom order the covers. I don't like the grubby covers on anew guitar. I rubbed some of the soot off the pole pieces on the antiquities on my '94 Strat and used the original covers, not the "aged" ones:laugh2:

Re: Firebird question

Hey JDM61,

My favorite sound - switched the neck pickup in my reissue Firebird to an Antiquity 2 Firebird.

The difference was night and day. The Antiquity sounds very close to a 63-65 Firebird. In my opinion, much better. Decided to keep the reissue bridge pickup though. Excellent tone for mid to high gain sounds.

However, the Antiquity blows away the reissue Gibson pickups on clean/blues sounds. Simply no comparison.

One word of caution - these pickups are not wax potted and squeal at high gain levels unless you are careful.

Have not tried/heard the Dimarzio mini humbucker. Would appreciate receiving any comments.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Bman

Re: Firebird question

I use a bridge ANT II in the neck of my partscasters. I wax potted them and they sound a little smoother and less noisy not to mention no more squealing.

You can polish up those covers a bit. As for using one for a bridge pickup, I can't see getting any usable sounds. I had the same problem with the all the firebird's I had. I eventually used one of the really hot Duncans and even then it was just too much high end in the bridge position.

Great guitars but the only person I think who actually used the bridge pickup was Steven Stills. His sound was clean, he really wasn't much of a soloist. On the other hand I loved johnny Winter and his sound with the Firebird was awesome, especially with three super or twin reverbs. He only used the neck pickup though.

You might want to think about using 250K volume and tone pots for the bridge.
