is it my imagination,or when i swapped out the 9 volt battery for the emg's in my eclipse,that i had a lot of unwanted gain on my clean sound,that had not been there prior to the battery change...long story short,i havnt figured out how to get rid of it yet,there is no gain circuit on the clean channel of the triple x head. i was using the digi tech gnx in the signal chain . i dislike this so much i want to ask any one with a seymour duncan equiped ec1000 to chime in and tell me how it sounds,there may be a pick up swap coming for this guitar.

Try another battery. You could have put a dud in there.

The signal may just be too big. You may be able to put a small resistor in the battery path. It would have to be small enough to only drop a 1/4 "or less" of a volt.
The other option would be to drain the battery a little. Stick a 100k resistor from + to the - terminals of the battery and let it sit for a minute or 2, then try it out.
If it still does it, put the resistor back on for another minute.

If none of that works, change the pickup.

im already thinking like a duncan guy and that all thats to much trouble,and maybe ducans belong in this guitar.

This may sound like a stupid question, but did you roll off the volume a little? I was assuming you did.

My guess is that the previous battery was pretty old and partially discharged at the time when you decided to replace it. Your amplifier settings are based on the degree of output offered by the pickups when running on less than ideal power.

Now, with a fresh battery, your pickups are yielding their proper output level. Therefore, your amp gain settings need decreasing to restore the previous drive balance.

sounds logical,except the channel i use has no gain control.

I usually found that a dying battery with an active setup resulted in a farty-fuzz tone; like I had some kind of old-skool onboard dirt unit.

But yeah, a new battery should make them sound loud and clear compared to a half-dead battery.

Yup. Same thing happened to a friend of mine.

these guitars came with the emg pick ups in all but one color option..for what ever reason the sunburst model came with duncans...a jb in the bridge and a 59 in the neck.i know nothing about the 59,but i have a jb in a fender show master and i love it. now i am realy curious to see what this guitar sounds like with duncans.

Send it back as defective and request the EC1000 with the 59/JB

Out of curiosity have you tried taking the GNX out of the chain?
Dependng on how you have the output setup it can be increasing your gain as well

Actually, it gives a little more headroom and clarity. Kind of a touch-feely thing. All I know is that about 15 years ago, and EMG factory rep told me to try it. I did and now I run all my EMGs like that.

Besides, it's not a permanent mod. What does the OP have to lose by trying it?
