I "think" the problem is that the new battery increased the signal so that he is getting some distortion on his clean channel.

If so, just turn down the volume on the clean channel, balance channels 2 and 3, and turn up the master volume to compensate.

Ditch the actives, get the JB and 59, and you never have to worry about crons mucking up your signal ever again!

Actually, it gives a little more headroom and clarity. Kind of a touch-feely thing. All I know is that about 15 years ago, and EMG factory rep told me to try it. I did and now I run all my EMGs like that.

Besides, it's not a permanent mod. What does the OP have to lose by trying it?

Ah I see.

I just figured his problem was he liked the tone he was getting with his dying battery and that two new ones would just juice it up way more than he wants as one new battery is already pushing it too far.

There is a gain control (volume) there is not a distortion/clipping control (Hair) on that channel no? If you turn the volume down does it clean up?

no decreasing the volume does not clarify the clean channel,it just lowers the volume....the unwanted distortion is still there......im just gonna gut it,put in duncans and call it a day.

all i know is one of my favorite and must have tones is gone like a fart in the wind,and if the only way i can get it back is to dump the emg's they are gone,cuz this blows and im not likeing the emgs at all right now,and ive made up my mind....emgs are getting pulled and duncans are goin in. screw this crap with actives.

hell freaking yes....im so annoyed ,i want take out the emg's and set them on fire....they came in the guitar,and they are leaving the guitar..i want them out.

Have you tried a different battery? Maybe when you changed it you pulled a wire loose?

I've used an ESP Eclipse with EMGs, never had the problem you are describing. The signal out of them should be loud but very clear on the clean channel. Especially if you are going into the clean channel of a XXX. I used a 60W combo XXX last time I was playing out, the clean channel doesn't have alot of character, but it is very clean.

Not saying Duncans wouldn't sound great in your guitar, but I'm not sure there isn't something else going on. Does it clean up when you turn down the volume on the guitar? Both pickups? Have you plugged into another amp?

emg's dont belong in that guitar. Being that its sooo light and thin for a LP style guitar, it doesnt sound as good as it would for a thicker axe. SD JB/59 - A2Ps work marvelous in it

Try draining the battery a bit and see if that helps. Put a paper clip across both terminals for a few seconds and test it again. Repeat until you get the desired tone.

nah,it was fine befor the new battery and i use the clean channel for my effects unit anyway.

no nothing else going on i was jammin at band practice and my guitar kept cutting out ...so i put a new battery in went back to jammin and this crap shows up...nothing works rolling back what ever didnt work,....im stumped...so i wish there was something more to it but there isnt..just a battery change...what the hell?...lol

I vote for trying a different battery too.

If you changed to a different brand or different type of battery (alkaline vs lithium vs "heavy duty") they can all have different voltages. "9V" is a nominal measurement. No battery ever really operates at the voltage listed on the label. It can be a little bit higher or lower when brand new and all brands are different in that regard. The new battery could also just be a dud, which might explain the distortion.

Try a different battery.

If the distortion is a bit fuzzy and sticks around even if you turn the guitar or clean gain down it's very likely a low battery. At least it always was for my EMGs. At least try it before you rip the pickups out.

I would get a different battery and if that does not do it check the amp with another guitar and see if it still does it.
