I started on bass first. Got the Squier starter pack for $300 in 2001. First guitar was a beatup acoustic I bought off of some old hippie, but it never held tune. First working guitar was a Fender Strat that I still play often.
i guess the first i actually owned was a cheap acoustic i think it was called a herald or something when i was five but i couldn't play and resented having guitar lessons, but the first guitar i actually bought and the guitar i learned on was the yamaha which i still own but rarely play
Ibanex GRX40, nice little starter axe with really terrible pickups. Mine was purple. Eventually got a SSL-1 and a Super Distortion, later pawned it for $50. Last year I saw a new one exactly like it in a local shop for $115, almost snagged it for nostalgia value but at the time I think I had enough guitars.
yeah i took lessons when i was five but i was far too small to play the acoustic and i hated playing it and then got my yamaha and started playing seriously
My first electric was a Jackson K10Pro Kelly, and it was a piece of neck-heavy crap. At the time I bought it, I thought it looked cool and didn't really know any better. Roughly 3 months later I acquired my Explorer which was the first good guitar I got my hands on. I still have it, and it'll be one of the last to go if I have to sell.
My first acoustic is a Guild DV-6 that I bought with part of my financial aid change check in the fall of 2002. I still have it, and every song I've ever written has been played on it at some point.
I still have my first guitar, only owner, since I was 7 years old. 1979 Gibson GK-55. Mom wanted me to take music lessons, and it was that or the accordion.
Yamaha acoustic. My parents wanted me to start on acoustic first because it was cheaper and they didn't want to shell out a ton of money for it. When it was pretty clear that I was going to be sticking with it, they got me a Squier Strat.
This is the first guitar I played, and on which I learned to play. A 1970-something Estrada Deluxe Classical guitar. It was my mom's, but it's now in my collection:
This was actually the first guitar I ever owned, a 1980-something Applause (by Kaman, same maker as Ovation at the time) AA-31. Got it in 1984 and still have it.
This is my only photo of my first electric guitar. A cheap-ass Lotus copy of an LP Jr. that I got in 1985, but lost in the same fire that damaged "The Phoenix" in 1995. It was a POS, but I wish I still had it (wish I still had those pants too!)
My first guitar was some awful Sears catalog thing that picked up radio stations as well as it did the strings!!! I only had it for about a month & then I got my first real guitar, a brand spanking new 1997 MIM Strat! I kept it until about a month ago and then I finally unloaded it with a bunch of others but just yesterday I got a email from the guy I sold it to!
I had done just about every horrible, terrible, awful thing to this guitar you could imagine except take it out back & used it for target practice!!! Most of you can probably remember the guitar, it was the one covered with green polka dots??? He's got it looking & playing like a brand new guitar again!!! Now I kinda want it back, LOL!!!
While I'm admittedly a little jealous I'm also super happy that the guitar will be around to give someone else a bunch of great memories & songs like it did for me!!! I wrote the best songs I'll ever write on it and it was my friend through many adventures!!!
I do think I do hear it crying for some better pickups though??? I'm sorry about that, she got a little spoiled over the years.... :9:
this is not mine as i traded it for another guitar along time ago... that was pretty stupid imo but i was young and had no idea what i had. just a pic i found on the net but its the same model except mine had coil split switches for each humbucker
