First Re-Tubing... Help me out please.

My amp is a Crate VC-50. The power tubes are EL84s. 4 of them.
I am starting to get some weird volume flux so I am thinking tubes after reading some of the trouble shooting tips in another thread.

What do I look for in new tubes? Good brand? What makes one brand better than another? What will be the difference between brand X and brand Y tonally?

I dig my current tone. So I could find out what the current tubes are and go with them. I'm pretty sure the tubes are the stock tubes.

You'd be best off getting the JJ EL-84's, since they're the best sounding of the current production tubes. A step above Sovtek and Ruby etc.

How hard is it to replace tubes? Is it just as simple as pulling out the old ones, and putting in new ones?

In your amp, that's all you have to do. Wiggle them out in a circular motion, and put them in the same way.
