First REAL gibson experience

I finally plucked up the courage to play a gibson for the first time. Was in a big guitar shop, played 4 Les Pauls: a classic and 3 standards. OH MY GOD! i preferred the feel of the standards i played, thicker necks. Felt so nice n smooth, very well made. Everything felt so good on them. I have always loved the look of a Paul, and now i can see why theyre so popular. What is upsetting is that i wont be able to have one anytime soon :yell: im skint as it is, and im gonna get a job to pay my dad back some money.

Anyway, dunno what my next guitar will be, a strat? a Les Paul (well eventually i will!)? Before then i was seeing myself getting either a strat or a LTD EC-400at. I wanna A/B an EC against a les paul some time, it was ages ago but i really liked the LTD. Thought id share all that :) I envy you all with les pauls

I would go with EC 400 archtop, it comes with better accessories and is alot cheaper. The EC comes with duncans already too! And the quality on the ltd are really nice, from all of the ones I have played. (ec 400, viper 400, ect).

There's no doubt Gibson makes a good instrument... the price & quality just don't mesh. My dad has an old '62 Les Paul (the SG shape), that's worth like 3 grand. A couple years ago, the neck was separating from the body. He took it to a local luthier, who informed my dad that the neck was too short :smack: He had to add about a half an inch to it when he reset it.

The difference from what i can gather between the 400 and the 400AT is that the AT has binding, black or gold top :32: chrome covered JB/'59 etc etc. The problem is im fresh of playing a Les Paul and it was last summer when i played the LTD. I remember liking it alot though but my god the gibson was sweet. I cant help but feel my Kramer is kind of obsolete! Hehe anyways no worries, i wish i didnt GAS since i wont be having a new guitar anytime soon! Oh well

Re: First REAL gibson experience

The first time I ever played a Gibson LP I was surprised by it's weight. Up until that point I always disliked them as I thought they looked like a retarded fiddle.

Anyways, after playing a bunch I ended up buying an Epi LP. I'm not going to say it's a better axe because it isn't, but after playing about a hundered different guitars of varying makes and models that one just felt the best to me. The funny thing is that it's my main axe and I still don't like the look of LPs that much....
