Fizzy/Fuzzy Sounding Peavey?

I wanted an all-tube amp and went with the Peavey ValveKing 112. I decided on this amp after pouring through tons of reviews which were all very favorable. Something that I have noticed about this amp is that at higher volumes I hear this fizzy sound that I never noticed at lower volumes. I don't get to really crank it in the house very often so I never really noticed it before. I have heard people speak of a fizzy sound in some amps and I wasn't quite sure what they meant until now.

I don't use alot of distortion, 1/4 to a 1/3 of what the knob will do. What causes this? Is it speaker or tube related or could it be something else?

Any and all input would be appreciated

With those combo's, I think they sound fizzy period, like a peavey does. Usually though at higher volumes, least with my rig...it was the cab/speakers.

Re: Fizzy/Fuzzy Sounding Peavey?

what kind of sound is it?

When you say "fizzy" it makes me think of an arbitrary output of higher frequencies, which I guess could be just since its peavey..

But when you say "fuzzy" it makes me think that you are approaching tube power-stage breakup, which is normal and usually very nice

Re: Fizzy/Fuzzy Sounding Peavey?

Where is your master? you could be hearing the power tubes distorting...Which usually makes me smile...

Could be that cheap lil speaker getting pushed if your not above 5 on the MV

if not its probably just the nature of a gainy amp...but I don't remember the VK I auditioned being so much fizzy...I liked it just the cleans sucked and the channel switching seemed awful from the Footswitch...

Yea... I brought a buddy with me and played this amp (Head Version) for about an hour in a local music store. I just could not make it happen..... The cleans were OK, but the overdrive channels were fizzy and worst of all, the amp hardly responded at all it's own eq knobs, so there was not really a heck of a lot to tweak.

Re: Fizzy/Fuzzy Sounding Peavey?

you could try it out with a separate speaker cab, or just use a eq pedal to dial out the fizziness.
