Flanger Recomendations

I would like to buy one, and I've looked into a few, like the Boss BF-3 and the Through Zero Flanger (I forget who makes it), but I'm not sure which one I should buy. Which ones do you guys use?

Re: Flanger Recomendations

I know guys were talking about the Akai Flanger before. It's supposedly the best flanger available or atleast one of the best.

Yep. The ADA is probably the best vintage analog flanger out there (limited supply). Also, the MXR unit is pretty good too - EVH liked it. I'm currently using an old yellow Ibanez FL9. Works for me. It has 3 internal trim pots that allow you to really tweak the delay, regeneration and width parameters. All analog too!

Re: Flanger Recomendations

If you don't mind the noise an old AC powered MXR is hard to beat. I don't know about the new ones.

I nearly forgot, the clips on the Foxrox Paradox TZF are pretty amazing, check 'em out. If you want that psychedelic 60s heavy tubular sound that's the only thing I've ever heard that nails it.

late seventies/early 80's ADA Flanger. I never gave much thought to flangers till I heard this thing! It's a sound that'll send shivers up your spine. I actually pulled my Fulltone Dejavibe off, sold it to MRID, and put the ADA in it's place. I don't step on it often, but when people hear it, they always ask what it is. Swizzle sticks to jet plane engines! They usually run between $100 and $225 used.

Yeah I checked that one, it's pretty amazing! Thanks for telling me who made it I totally forgot.

Re: Flanger Recomendations

I've got an old HF-2 Hi-Band flanger that BOSS made, really nice,it's like the BF-2, but they cut the delay time in half (.5mS ~ 6.5mS) so it flanges an octave higher ... a little less tin canny. The BF-3 is worth it's weight in gold for all the features though. For something a bit different though that Guyatone is kinda neat, they do something nice with the LFO wavefrom ... it's real attention getting. If you like the bF-2, but wish it was a little more on the filtery side, and less tin can hunt up a HF-2 off ebay. It still has enough delay time to do some mild chorusing as well.

I can't believe I forgot the EH Electric Mistress Deluxe ... It does what it does very well, and the newer ones sound almost exactly like the old ones ... cool! Haven't checked their current asking price though. Man, I can't believe I didn't mention the EH EM ... :smack:

Re: Flanger Recomendations

I have a BF-2..it gives me the basic Flanger for what i need....serves me well. I might give the BF-3 a try on of these days....if they would just lower the price somwhat.
