Flipped the Antiquirty Humbucker?

Re: Flipped the Antiquirty Humbucker?

Dear Dr Gibson How very rude of you. Your bedside manner leaves a lot be desired.LOL
Yes we are all in the same boat. All subject to the information we are fed and ultimately having to comprehend what we can of it with the fallibilities of our limited and imperfect senses. You are no exception.
Of course ultimately the proof is in the pudding ( subjective as that may be ) and ultimately your favoured pick ups may be reviled by the rest of the guitar playing world but as long as you like them then that is all that counts right? But then again your listening public may disagree with your favoured tone.
This discussion is about researching available information about a product before purchasing that product.
It would seem that your good self and others on this forum have poo pooed the idea of taking into consideration information freely found on the world wide web. Personally I do not understand that bias. If we all had to go by trial and error until we found what we liked we'd prolly all be mad by now and paupers to boot.
Thank you for taking the time to reply and if you have any constructive, insightful commentary on the Seymour Duncan Antiquity pick ups please do not hesitate to chime in.

I am not a Dr. I also was not being rude, but you insulted people and are being really quite foolish. What you said was ridiculous, period. That is a fact, not opinion. Hearsay on the web will at best give you a vague idea of what it will sound like when it arrives to you and is installed in your rig. It is not a valid form of "research." Now, it might be enough to know some basics, but whether it will be boomy in your rig and whether flipping a pickup will do anything you can hear is another matter entirely.

You managed to insult someone who owned the pickups you are interested in, talking of enlightening someone who oddly, could have enlightened you a bit, though obviously not fully. I don't own antiquities. I do own some original pickups from the 40's and 50's that scratch that itch for me. I have played a few antiquities and I liked them, however, I do have stuff in the neighborhood.

I have tried hundreds of types of pickups, most of which while I was a poor, self supporting college student. I bought used and if I didn't like it, I generally sold it at a mild profit. Sometimes the profits were great in fact. You don't grow mad or to be a pauper if you don't go about it foolishly. You grow more informed, and sometimes with a fatter wallet. My point is, your method of "research" isn't research. Research involves testing things, and actually experiencing them. Research could involve some reading, and some advice, but there is no substitute for experience. And substituting hearsay for experience is what you are doing.

I realize senses are fallible, but what you are doing is adding multiple layers of subjectivity and fallibility with a dose of variance. (guitars do not sound alike, and are made of natural materials). If you had me playing Jimmy Paige's rig, I am going to sound like me. When you listen to a youtube video or compare notes with someone it is easy to forget that.

In short, your methodology is hopelessly flawed, and you are being quite rude in addition to ignorant. I say ignorant, because thirdhand accounts are going to leave you forever ignorant as to how an antiquity actually sounds in your guitar through your rig as you play it. If you have lived your life this way as you claim, I would encourage you to unplug and actually experience life.

I think most of my proffs would have kicked my butt if I took everything they said at face value without substantiating and testing methodologies.

Gibson 1964, don't bother.

This guy is so suffering of the Dunning–Kruger effect, that's not even funny.

HTH,

Re: Flipped the Antiquirty Humbucker?

Forgive me Dr. Gibson for not addressing your diatribe on a point by point basis.
Seymour Duncan does the research & testing. I research the results of his testing through his own publishing of the facts and those of others who have also tested & researched his work and reported their findings. This is accomplished by attending forums, reading reviews and listening to sound clips.( as flawed as that may be)
When I research and learn that Billy Gibbon's Pearly Gates '59 LP has Alnico 2's then I know the direction I want to go. Then, by using the same methodology I learn why they sound like they do and discover the difference's between the different Alnico pick ups.
Then I research the various manufacturers of Alnico 2's, learn of their R&D, reputation, etc., etc.,
You more than likely substantiated and tested less than 5% of what you studied and were taught and the rest you accepted based on faith.
Your critique of the way the majority of us live and learn is presumptuous to say the least and nonsensical at best.
The bottom line is that you do not use Antiquities it is therefore rather strange that you are even commenting within this thread.
Get a life.

Of which, Kojack, you are a prime example. LOL
Let's stick to guitars & pick ups shall we.?
If you have nothing to add concerning Antiquities then please just sign off.

Re: Flipped the Antiquirty Humbucker?

I asked you a direct question that has nothing to do with the other discourse sullying this thread. I asked in earnest and if you please I would appreciate an answer as it pertains to the topic.

Thank you. Sullying this thread is right !
In answer to your question please refer to post # 13
