Floyd Problems...

I think that that's it.

If the posts are moving in the wood do not use the floyd until you can fix it.... It's not that bad of a repair job... I would guess since that is an Original Floyd it has the metal insert and a harden machine thread pivot post...? Or is it one of the old wood screw type floyd posts?

My Floyd on my old Kramer ended up splitting so bad the wood gave out and split a piece off into the humbucker rout... For a few weeks before that i noticed everytime i dived with the bar the tuning would go out... then finally after a few weeks of using it the wood really gave out!

It's actually the corner of the baseplate that did the damage.

Ya sometimes if you lower the floyd too far down the the front edge of the Floyds Base plate will dig into the wood/paint... It needs to be raised up a little -(meaning not having the posts down all the way) to allow the base plate to clear the top when diving down.... I also found when i had tighten my floyds posts down to far and i dived with the bar this can pull the posts up a bit out of the body and lossen them up.... It's like a hammer pulling a nail out almost when the base plate gets caught. I've even seen floyd post sink into their holes and start coming out the bottom..

Re: Floyd Problems...

Luckily, this should be covered under warranty ;).

But, reading this and visualizing it happening to an SL2H as beautiful as yours has made me cringe...

Me too. Good luck with this thing, man.

Re: Floyd Problems...

yeah it sounds like the posts migrated.

warranty baby. If it's fairly new, that is.

btw yaw and pitch are measurements of movement within a 3 dimensional space.

Re: Floyd Problems...

Well, sadly, it looks like I'll have to pay my dealer a call... B/C, I have got to smoke a lot of weed to forget about this!! :laugh2:

Naw, I mean VWall Guitars...warranty should cover.

Bah, I'm not too pleased. But I would sincerely like to thank ALL of you for your input and help throughout this nightmare.

Thank you.

Without seeing a picture, I'd say most of you guys are off the mark, unless....

Guitarist - are the bridge posts (the screws the bridge is pulled against) screwed directly into the wood, like so:

or are they machine screws that are set into stud inserts that are recessed into the body, like this:
FRPBMMS-th.jpg
FRPBMSI-th.jpg

If it's the former, I'd say everybody is right here, but if it's the latter, there's no way the posts have moved. I would say that one of the knife edges of the trem is not actually sitting properly in the groove of it's post.

Re: Floyd Problems...

It turns out that one of my posts did infact slide. I got it under warranty and dropped it off at my local Jackson Service Center, should be back to me by the 27th or the 28th.

Thank you sosomething for your efforts. :)

Re: Floyd Problems...

That's a pretty good turnaround time! I'm glad you're getting it fixed!
