Floyd Rose FRX - anyone try?

Re: Floyd Rose FRX - anyone try?

I wanna know how these compare to the old '80s ToM mount Floyd Roses. I liked the look of those better. Do these add any functionality?

I got to play around with it at NAMM a bit. It feels a lot easier to bend the strings down, and still has the crazy range. I think it's because you aren't fighting the claw springs that are in the back of traditional whammy bridges. As for added functionality, it does come with a little thumbwheel that lets you lock the bridge flush with the body in case you don't want to pull the bar up and go EVH style. I believe Mr. Rose said it is compatible with the D-tuner too because of that little feature. Floyd himself said he prefers this design to his original one, but I dunno if that's just pushing a product or his actual stance on it. Seemed really cool though.

The old one couldn't be pulled back, either, so it would work with a dTuna. It was basically an OFR with a tiny block and a different sprint setup on a smaller mounting plate.

Good stuff. I actually want to try one on my SG though I'm a little wary of the string lock screw holes. I was hoping he found a way to use the existing holes from the truss rod cover. Also seems to have a lot of setup options like the block and the tension adjuster
