NHWD - Floyd Rose content

I am not hearing anything concerning. Maybe a bit brighter but it didn't drastically shift the sound of the guitar. I am playing at home with my practice amp, I will be able to better tell if there are any major tonal shifts when I plug into my main rig and practice with the full band on Saturday. It sounds and plays amazing so if anything maybe I might need to tweak a tone knob, but for now, I am fine with it.

Sometimes brighter is a good thing, ad long as sustain and punch don't suffer for it.

Can you post a video of you pushing and pulling down on it? I'd be interested to see how it works

That's pretty cool. I guess the weird cylinder thing is a spring that counterbalances the string pull? Being able to lock it is a huge advantage over a traditional one. Can you make it do down-only also?

Trying to get over the aesthetic.

That said, hard to argue with no routing, and it seems to work. How well does it hold a tune?

I still think I'd stick with a Kahler for a Les Paul, assuming I'd never sell. But being able to remove it is a huge thing. The lock factor is cool too.

I'm having too much fun with Midline Jacksons to want/need one on my Paul's.

Yes, and you can adjust the spring tension

There is an adjustable thumb screw block that can make it dive only. You can adjust it on the fly.

Have always wondered about those. Have been a Floyd player since they first came out - my first one was before he added fine tuners.

A practical question - is the trem bar easily removable? And does the guitar still fit in a Gibson hard case?

The trem is set with an allen nut. If it is not super tight you can pop the bar in and out. The guitar still fits perfectly in the case.

Awesome to see some first-hand experience with these things!!! While it is probably smartest to sell it, I have been toying with the idea of keeping my SG and getting one of these for it. Could make it the ultimate guitar if it just had a vibrato on it. also, i think it looks really good on your guitar.

I was going back and forth trying to decide if wanted to Floyd out the SG or Custom Lite. Obviously I went with the Les Paul and I am happy I did. I want to spend more time with the tremolo but I am 90% there ordering another one for the SG.

Is there more space to rest your palm heel on the side of the bridge without running into the fine tuners? I never feel 100% at home on a normal Floyd because I'm always worried about bumping them.

The base plates are almost identical. Any comfort issues you have with the traditional FR are not going away. I think the innovative thing they did here was to make it as much like the OFR as possible. Blindfolded most people would not guess it is a surface mounted tremolo.

Thanks man, guess I'll steer clear in that case.

I practiced with it and told the band "I apologize for the excessive whammy. I have to put this thing to the test". I had a ball playing today, with no tuning issues. I didn't have to adjust anything so the tone is pretty much the same. The big thing was I didn't even notice it was there until I went to use it. The guitar pretty much felt the same. I think I bumped into it a couple of times and was reminded there was an FR on the guitar but not in a bad way.

So it doesn't need a locking nut?

I was tuning up after each song and it wasn't way out. I am sure a locking nut would keep it dead on. I was finding the wound strings were a bit sharp after playing. This tells me they were getting hung up in the nut. I anticipated this and some Nut Sauce was delivered today. I had the same issue with the Iceman. Of all of my tremelo guitars only the B.C. Rich and Ibanez came with a locking nut. The Parker, Fenders and others have locking tuners some with LSR nuts.

Thank God this is reversible. I love the feel and function of the FRX. I just could not get the action dialed in as low as I like it. The action is okay, but I like my action slammed to the neck. My frustration and lack of FR experience took me to a luthier who told me the neck angle on the Les Paul lite is different than the angle on a typical Les Paul and the action was as low as it would go. This is no fault of Floyd Rose my guitar is kind of an oddball. I do not have another TOM guitar with gold hardware so I guess I will put the bridge on eBay and someone will get a great deal on it.

Well, that's too bad. It sounded like a cool device. I also didn't realize the neck angle on the LPL is different than all other LPs. I wonder why they did that?
