Floyd rose frx trem

Hey guys,

Has anyone here tried the floyd rose frx trem? I have an epi explorer that I'm bringing back to life and I want to put a floyd on it, but I don't want to have to do all sorts of routing to get one.
I went using a hardtail only for a while, but I have a jackson with a floyd I fixed up. Now when I go to my tom equipped agile I feel limited haha.
Does anyone know if the frx makes the action significantly higher, or would I still be able to set it low? What are some of the positives and negatives of the frx? Would it make more sense to just get another guitar with a floyd already on it?

Thanks,
Alex

I helped a buddy of mine install one... it was a tonesuck. So was a stetsbar. Have you considered a vibrola combined with a roller bridge? Great vintage vibe, way more capable than a Bigsby, and enhances tone! I put one on my Firebird and love it.

To me that makes more sense. Like you stated yourself, it's not really recommended to do routings, nor to drill new holes etc...at least if you want to keep the resale value of the guitar where it needs to be. If you like FLoyds, I'd just sell that guitar and get one with a Floyd installed, unless you really love that guitar so much you insist on keeping it.

I'm just curious, but how did the frx negatively affect the tone?

There was a definite loss of high end, and the overall sound wasn't as girthy for lack of a better word. There was also a loss of sustain. I put a stetsbar on my firebird before I got the vibrola and suffered a drastic sustain hit.
