Floyd Rose help.

Last night I attempted to change the strings on my floyd and failed miserably. My problem (I think) is that i am not tightening the saddles snugly enough, but I hear over and over again not to tighten them too much. How tight is too tight?

Tighten until I feel resistance from the string? or a little more? sorry if that doesnt make sense

More than just string resistance,certainly.

I usually tighten it snug,& then give it a little more of a crank.

Trust me,I drove myself 'bout crazy w/my 1st Floyd,but got the hang of it quickly.

I didn't know you could overtighten em to be honest.

It gets to the point where you really can't tighten em anymore. That's where I stop.

I keep seeing everywhere that overtightening them can screw something up with the saddles, but its hardened steel so i guess it would take quite a bit of tightening to screw that up. I wont be so bashfull with the allen key then

Spent years and years dealing with saddles inserts that crack or expand due to putting pressure on the saddle insert. I've also had saddles on the Schaller trems crack. I've had much better luck with the titanium saddle inserts. May have to a little hunting and be a little patient to find the best deal, but I typically find them on eBay for right at $29 a pop for a set. if you want them sooner you can find them pretty easily for about $10 more, plus shipping.
