floyd rose mounting studs stuck

I can't remove the floyd rose mounting studs on one of my guitars...
I tried to pry them out with a hammer and they just won't come out...
I thought about heating the studs with a soldering iron but I'm afraid it might damage the wood...

any ideas?

Re: floyd rose mounting studs stuck

Some have a set screw in the center
As the screw goes in it spreads

Back out the screw a bit

Re: floyd rose mounting studs stuck

must be rusted locked studs as mentioned already. use some WD40 (take care to not to spill over onto the finish)

Re: floyd rose mounting studs stuck

His studs are stuck not the posts ^^, I am guessing they were glued in. Heat should work to melt the glue then screw the post in and pull up on it..

they weren't glued...
I assembled the guitar like 3-4 years ago and I remember using excessive force in order to hammer them in (kind of unbelievable that the wood didn't crack actually)
I thought about heating the studs with a soldering iron (as metal shrinks when it's heated). would it work?

Re: floyd rose mounting studs stuck

Are the inserts solid at the bottom or open? I've been able to remove inserts by screwing a bolt all the way in which starts pushing the wood at the bottom and pulls them up.

(Alternatively, screw a bolt into the insert, grab a *heavy* pair of pliers, put the body on a carpeted floor, put your knees on the body and start pulling STRAIGHT upwards.)

standard FRO inserts that came with a new german floyd...
I'm afraid that if I pull too aggressively I might damage the body

This is a plasticized version of the ol' automotive/machine stud puller, designed not to kill your guitar.

Or you could go to AutoZone/Advance Auto/O'Reilleys/whatever and get the hardcore version of the tool, but that might mar up your finish.

I just tried standing on it and pulling it and it worked! (it was a lot easier than I thought actually)
thanks man you really saved my dumbass on this one!

Metal swells.when heated
Shrinks when cooled
