so i heard a buzzing coming from my yamaha licensed floyd rose on the high e. I went to tighten the lock on the bridge, and felt something fall onto my right thigh. i picked up my guitar and noticed the lock had clipped off the ball end and about 1 inch of the end of the string. up until this point i had never had any problems with the floyd rose. has anyone ever heard of this happening before????

I string floyds up with the ball end at the tuners, saves a lifetime of heart ache.

Just a tip for when you go to re-string it.

Ya +1, I never put the ball end into the lock when I had my Floyded guitar.

Well you're not supose to put the ball end in there anyway... Lol.

You always trim the ball end off if you string it that way.

Reason I string up the reverse way is so if a string breaks at the bridge, I can just get some slack and not have to change the strings.

Yep ball end at the tuners. You're floyd should work much better without the ball end in the lock.

Re: Floyd Rose--tell me if you've heard this one before...

ok, that is good to know, thanks.

but still, the bridge clamp lock isn't supposed to snip the string, is it?

No, you're supposed to do that before installing the string. ;)

yep. i snip all mine about an inch up from the ball where the wire starts to look nice and uniformly wrapped.

Re: Floyd Rose--tell me if you've heard this one before...

regardless... the clamp still isn't supposed to clip off the string, is it?

its not supposed to clip off the ball end of a string because your not supposed to stick a ball end in there.

no, its not designed to clip off the string, but if you tighten it way to tight, i could see that very easily hapening maybe you have something wrong with your saddle. but id doubt it.
