Floyd Rose Troubles

I'm trying to change the strings on my Floyd rose equipped guitar, but one pair of strings (B and e) won't unlock at the bridge or the nut. No matter how hard I turn the allen key, neither will budge, and I'm afraid if I turn any harder it will strip more than it already has. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks!

Re: Floyd Rose Troubles

Have you tried a different Allen key?
Although in theory they should all be the same, I have found out that some are a hair narrower or wider than spec. Perhaps a slightly larger one will fit the now-stripped holes?

Re: Floyd Rose Troubles

Personally i would invest in a pair of Mole Grips. A small pair will clamp the outside of the bolt, allowing you to turn it. But invest in a new set of bolts (bridge and nut) asap. But dont buy cheap, typically the bolts used in many licensed floyds are crap quality and strip over time. Decent high tensile (grade 8 or above) will be a worthwhile investment.

Re: Floyd Rose Troubles

Cheap floyds are a disaster, non gotoh expensive floyds can be good, gotoh's are superb.

the problem usually is the other way around when trying to lock: how much force should one aply. When you are unlocking there should be no problem. If you damage your nut by unscrewing the bolts (counter-clockwise) then good riddance, buy a good nut or bridge.

Re: Floyd Rose Troubles

Take your trem off and soak it WD-40 for about an hour or so.

*edit*

I see it's both ends. Put some drops of wd-40 in the area that's stuck.
