Dude, if you're not comfortable with a Floyd, why feel pressured into it? Just stick with your Fender or other type trems.

On the contrary tho, there's nothing to be afraid of. Its just simple mechanics that keep the floyd working right. Once you've set up your floyd for the string gauge and tuning you use, string changes and things like that aren't a big deal.

I wouldn't want a floyd on every guitar, but for some songs, styles, and guitars they really benefit from them. Just like Gibby's beneft from hardtails, and strats like vintage trems...

if the shoe fits...

well the tune-o-matic on my SG and the six-screw Fender trem on my Fender stay in tune a lot better than the Floyd on my old BC Rich ever did. i take my personal experience over that of randoms on the 'net you know.

a floyd rose is just a lot of fancy mechanics to accomplish something a proper set-up should handle just fine.

Don't you think a properly set-up Floyd should work as well as other trems? If they're so crap, go out of tune etc how come so many pros use them with no problems?
It amazes me that so many people on forums complain about tuning stability with Floyd type trems, when people like Vai and Satriani make a living hammering those things to death with no tuning problems.
Set it up right and it'll work right. :usa:

That said, to the original poster - if you don't like Floyd's don't use them. It doesn't really bother me what bridge a guitar has, it just so happens my Jacksons come with Licensed Floyd types so I learned how to set the things up properly. If you really don't want one, don't buy a guitar that has one, stick to Fenders or Gibsons or PRS or whatever. You should really buy a Jackson with a Floyd Rose though ;)

My Floyd Rose never ever ever goes out of tune, man. And mine isn't even an Original Floyd Rose to begin with (It's an Ibanez' Edge Pro) so I'm pretty baffled to read someone saying that they're "crap", or that they do what a good setup can do. FRs aren't a legendary piece of guitar gear just because.

Nothing else can survive a long playing set without going slightly out of tune at least, no matter how light the touch and pick attack is. Nothing, nothing, nothing. If somebody can't keep a floyd in tune, either he/she doesn't understand how to keep it going fine, or that FR is crap to being with.

To the topic creator: Please read this, because I did a mistake, a huge one.

DO NOT PUSH YOURSELF INTO A FLOYD ROSE IF YOU AREN'T SURE ABOUT IT!

Unless you're Steve Vai in disguise, I don't think you actually need one of them. Try to practice with a Floyd Rose equipped guitar, understand how they work, how to live with them everyday. If you don't like them, don't feel "it" with them, then don't pull the trigger. They can be a hassle to live with, particularly if you keep switching tunings. I certainly don't need them, hence why my Ibanez is going somewhere else. But they're brilliant, man.

Just like you test drive a car before buying it, you gotta try and practice on a Floyded guitar for quite a while, and understand if it's really what you want. Just don't feel pushed into it... there's too many Floyd wankers out there anyway!

Good luck.

i think a lot of the fear about floyds comes from people who have never used a good one... one that is well made and stays in tune extremely well.. I've seen a few players lose it over trying to change a set of strings on a floating floyd and sell the guitar for a different set up... it's a nice unit once you learn all the little tricks and quirks they offer
