Flying V and Explorer owners

Re: Flying V and Explorer owners

This will be my first purchase. Jeff Waters from Annihilator was endorsing them and I came across with a video of his on youtube. Then i checked their website and gallery. I was amazed with the work they did.

I am dying to get the guitar. Unfortunately waiting period is 10-12 months :(

How did you hear about Ran Guitars? Have you bought from them before?

Re: Flying V and Explorer owners

Caved into my GAS, now what pickguard and pickups to swap on it? Cream? Black? Zebra? Gold?

If that beauty was mine, I'd scour the earth for a pickguard in gold. As close a match to the pickups as possible. Sort of Fast Eddie strat look... sort of...

But that's just me :)

Re: Flying V and Explorer owners

where did find a futura. i've been trying to find one for years.
I don't think he meant the Moderne at the top of the thread. The original Explorer was called a Futura and had a 2+4 offset V headstock. I think he meant the Dean Z in this pic.

And I haven't owned a V since about '89. But every once in a while I look at the old Deans like this one and want one bad.

Re: Flying V and Explorer owners

Yeah you might be right. My Z is a 2003 USA Dean. The V is a '98-'99 Czech made Korina Z.

Re: Flying V and Explorer owners

I am getting it built from www.ranguitars.com Check out their gallery.
These guys are from Poland and they can replicate anything you ask for. Their prices are pretty reasonable comparing to ESP or Jackson custom shop.
I will get mine for 3K.

ugh, i knew that would happen. i was looking to get one years back, and it was only $2000 with an 8-month wait. i knew as time went on and they got more well-known everything would jump up a good deal

This is the long lost brother to both the V and Explorer...

I am currently running a set of Duncan Pearly Gates in her but I am thinking about trying out the original Shaw pickups for kicks...however the PG's kick a LOT of butt in this guitar!

I saw a variant of this on TV yesterday. Moderne body with an Explorer headstock. WAY cooler than the usual version! Now I kind of want one and they are so totally not my usual kind of guitar.

Was this a Gibson Custom Shop model or is another company stealing the most unappreciated 'classic' guitar shape ever?

Or I guess it could be a total custom one-off from an independent luthier. But anyway it was cool.
