Flying V! :)

Hey All!

Today I was at guitar center Les Paul shopping because I've been saving up lately to get one for that fat chunky tone! Well I played a few '03 burst standards.. Then I played a few classics. I'll have to say I wasn't too impressed.. Maybe I was playing not so good individuals? I've heard about inconsistencies with the new Pauls, but hmm.. for a $2000 guitar I'd expect a crap load more. Maybe they just weren't set up right. Oh well...

On my way out I happen to notice a Black Cherry Flying V.. I thought, "Cool, something to mess around with for a few more minutes." I'd never played a V before today. But anyway. Right from the second I plugged this baby in.. I loved it. I'm guessing it's the 500T/496R combo. It sounded pretty sweet. And the neck was like butter... The fret access was amazing!! I could get those 22 fret bends so easily.. So much different than my Mexi strat with 21 frets! The 500T actually sounded similar to my C5 in my strat, except with a little bit more of an edge. And it's actually fun to play the with the V between your legs! The guitar was only $950! New! I loved it! I'm thinking about picking it up this weekend! Anyway... Just wanted to share. You guys like V's? Tell me what ya think! Any problems with the new V's? I'd definitely slap a Custom/59 or a JB/59 set once I got it. But anyway.. Thanks for reading..

Re: Flying V! :)

Flying V's are way cool. Go back and get that exact one ASAP. If you love playing it, that's what matters most. If you don't love it after you get it home, take it back before the 30 day refund is up. That's one thing I love about Guitar Center. Just don't mod it until your sure your going to keep it. If you found a good one, grab it. :saeek:

Re: Flying V! :)

Haha yeah.. The more I think about it.. I want it.. I'm GASing insanely right now! The 80's metal is creeping into me! Lol.

Re: Flying V! :)

The only time I ever held a V, I was sitting on the floor, cross-legged, and the guy didn't have a strap.

It was impossible to hold and play. So that sorta put me off them. They do look cool though. Maybe I'll give one another chance sometime.

The important thing, though, is if you like it. ;)

Re: Flying V! :)

That's a good price for a USA Gibson V! The only drawback is not being able to play it without a strap standing up. I like V's- the upper frets are 100% accessable! Lots of guys hate em' cuz they look so metal. I say if it's comfortable and sounds good, who really cares what shape it's in! Well- almost... I'd NEVER play a PENIS shaped guitar no matter how good it was!

Of course, now we're all wondering . . . why did you even think of that?

Re: Flying V! :)

the gibbo V's just seem to have the perfect balance when standing up

ive got a few clips of my V with stock 500T in the bridge, as well as what it sounds like with a CC in there
if anyone wants a clip, just PM me ;)

Re: Flying V! :)

V's are sweet, I would love to have one with P94s. :)

They're easy to play sitting down. Just hold it with your right leg inbetween the wings of the V as if it were a classical guitar.

i love flying vs!!! :headbang:

i hate penis guitars :)

Same Here, I wouldn´t sell my ´83 Gibson for a million bucks. Too much sentimental value, and a great player as well ;)

But this made me laugh so hard (thinking about how funny it would be) that I have to provoke it again :D:D :fing25: :D:D

Re: Flying V! :)

i remember some V's had a strap of rubber on the low wing so you could play normally while sitting.. well, kind of. just put the lower wing between your legs and you're set.

i've been gassing for a jackson king v in amber sunburst, but i want a floyd axe now, so i stopped gassing for the V, but the amber sunburst is still there hehe

*edit*
WANKCASTER ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been thinking about grabbing a '67 reissue myself. Glad that they are toneworthy...I've only played through the older origionals and some Korina models. Loved um. Cool! Buy it!

They were on the original ´58 Vs and all reissues / good reproductions IIRC.

Ehm, you DO know that King V´s are available with a floyd, right? ;)

Re: Flying V! :)

I picked up my '85 V for $300. It was one of those guitars that, when you picked it up, said to you, "...You need me. Buy me. You can't live without me...." And it was fun to play at home, but the first time I took it to a gig, I couldn't figure out what I'd been thinking. The frets were too small, the pickups were anemic, it had this awful Gibson/Kahler blend of a bastardized wiggle stick that wouldn't let it stay in tune. But I still liked the thing, so I dropped a Full Shred into the back, had some Dunlop 6000's put on, yanked out the Gibson/Kahler bastard and put in a stop tailpiece. Plays great, much better tuning, etc. Anyway, yes, I like V's a lot. Explorers, too.

I have the same Whammy on my V, no problems whatsoever. ;)

Re: Flying V! :)

ive wanted a v for a really long time actually, either a hot rod flame KV-2 or a dean time capsule v. those two are too damn expensive though! id get a gibson v but i want an explorer more, and theyre a little too similar to buy both at the same time.
