Foo Fighters and Mesa

I am always surprised when I see Dave playing Mesas. I generally dislike the Mesa tone, but somehow he always sounds great using those amps.

Wonder how he does it?

Re: Foo Fighters and Mesa

The 'Nothing Left To Loose' record is about 85% dimed out AC30's with a well chosen boost or two.... Stacked Actors & all that...

Great touch. Great feel. Great player.

He uses the boogies live as a main-gain tone.

Re: Foo Fighters and Mesa

Yeah, a lot of AC30. But spend some time with a Mesa, especially the Road King and you will find a ton of great tones that aren't your typical Recto Grind.

Well if you're gonna go this route, you might as well map it out in detail, cause he definitely deserves the recognition. But you forgot his first major stint on the skins for the D.C. Area's SCREAM. Also each, and every side project he has worked on in between all of those listed above. He has accompanied many bands whether on tape, or on tour. Too many indie bands to mention, played on the soundtrack score for the Beatles movie, BackBeat, Tom Petty personally asked for his chops up on stage on their kit, he's worked with P. Diddy, Jack Black, and so on... He is a super nice fella, and very blessed to be able to have been associated with so many acts for the past 19 years.

Yeah, they spotted you on your amp info up above, pretty well too.

Re: Foo Fighters and Mesa

i don't listen to the foos that much (got an album tho)
but the tone on 'best of you' is really good.

Re: Foo Fighters and Mesa

Using low-output pickups like on "Hero" and "Everlong" helps keep the individual strings ringing through, too.
