For The Marshall Guys...

Re: For The Marshall Guys...

Ya' know....that's not the first time I've read that the Marshall JTM45 is a misnomer...it's actually 30-35 watts.

Re: For The Marshall Guys...

I wonder about that rating. Mine seems to be much louder than any other 35 watt amp I've ever heard. It needs an attenutator as my ears are ringing pretty harshly now. Most folks I know don't need an attenuator with a 35 watt amp.

Re: For The Marshall Guys...

I'm not sure if this is true of JTM45 clones....The Edana uses the extra large iron & Scott believes it to be 45watts.

I guess the only way to know for sure is to have it scoped....if you were so inclined.

I honestly could care less, as long as it sounds sweet as it does :D

Re: For The Marshall Guys...

A great read. Trouble is, I just realised that the marshall amp head, with 8x10 cabinet, that I sold in 1992 for £200 was a 1985 100W JMP PA head!!!! Bugger! :(

Re: For The Marshall Guys...

OUCH !!!

Yeah, I was wonderring what the conversion rates were for British Pounds/US Dollars on some of those.

Big big money :(

Re: For The Marshall Guys...

Of course you would know all about this stuff these days with the internet. Just my luck to own such a great amp and have no idea what it was or be able to source good info on it.

No doubt, that amp has serious balls! Probally louder than my 100W Marshall??????? We will have to try it out at Jeff H's shindig to see for sure!

Re: For The Marshall Guys...

Since tube amps are rated at the onset of clipping, the wattage rating is really more of a measure of clean head room than a measure of overall loudness potential. A tube amp that starts distorting (and/or sagging) early, will have a lower wattage rating, but it still may be quite loud.

I played a 65 JTM45 through a 25 watt Celestion loaded 4x12 cab once. It had some serious punch. It would probably have demanded a hotplate in todays club enviroment. Put one through a louder set of speakers and I can see it competing with higher wattage rated amps in loudness.

Re: For The Marshall Guys...

Man I'm jonesing to get to the East Coast UGD! I better start stocking up on beer (and an attenuator).
