If any SDUGF'ers are GASSING for something odd...

WAAAAAAAAAAY out of my price league, i just finished a vintagey mahogany superstrat. But my GAS meter just broke seeing this. Only thing i'd be unsure is the use of texas specials with a custom 5. I'd probably rather have the fat 50s in there. What do you guys think

Re: for those of ya who like superstrats....

it's an oddball, but i've never seen an old relic'd cs strat with HSS, AND a floyd. I've seen them alone, but not together, that's why i thought it was /win

Re: for those of ya who like superstrats....

Fugly, and with a $7k price tag to boot. No thanks.

Re: for those of ya who like superstrats....

Guess this forum only like petite pretty groomed plastic operated, botoxed silicone guitars:D
And pricetag prolly covers a strat that kicks some butt!!
Usually does from those guys!

Re: for those of ya who like superstrats....

i like the specs, but not the price or the over done relic job... might as well order a raw body and neck from Warmoth, add a few thin coats of finnish and let nature do the relic for ya....

Re: for those of ya who like superstrats....

OTT. Id rather have one of Xssives reliced Superstrats.

Re: for those of ya who like superstrats....

I'm not one for relics but I kinda dig it. The Texas Specials would stay and the Custom 5 would get replaced with either a Brobucker or a '57 Classic Plus.

Re: for those of ya who like superstrats....

sometimes, fugly can be nice. If it was a $1k strat, you'd all be drooling over it left and right. I will say this, Fender's CS is much much much more awesome than gibson's when it comes to thinking outside the box. Case in point, the John English She-Devil Guitar.

(let's see gibson try that, or make something outside of the "norm" for a vintage relic)

I'd just rather put the wear on myself. And I wouldn't pay $7k for any guitar, much less one that's beat up out of the box.

No, I wouldn't. If it was a $5 strat guess what - I wouldn't be drooling all over it. I don't like "heavy relics" like this. I don't mind some finish checking here and there, but this isn't tasteful in my opinion.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, it *is* a Fender CS guitar after all so it probably plays/sounds great. It just think they ruined it with the aesthetics.

if it was New, or even mild closet, yea. I even like some mild relics when done right, but i think the whole "i wanna be like blackie!" fetish has gone too far. If fender could make a clean version of this, i think it'd be a lot more popular and a lot less divided in opinion.

However, can we agree that at least fender has the gazpachos to think outside the box?

Re: for those of ya who like superstrats....

Well I personally love it. And it's a much better alternative to putting a FR on an actual 60's era strat. My roommate this last semester had a masterbuilt that was a heavy relic, and believe me, once you start playing it, you do not give a single **** about how it looks. Like chris rock said, you could have a bucket of ****s and someone could be dying and just need one **** to survive and you wouldn't give it to him, because of how ridiculously good the guitar sounds and plays.

So, yeah, it's $7k, but that's a small price to pay to have a transcendent Out of Body experience every single time you plug the guitar in.

Seriously, it was that good. And I personally like the way a good relic looks. At least it's not the people at the fender custom shop are just going ape **** with a belt sander and some quarters. They really put some heart and soul into each one.

Re: for those of ya who like superstrats....

I still wouldn't pay $7k for a guitar, especially something as simple as a strat. You can get strats from makers like Suhr, Anderson, etc that will match up pretty closely with a Fender CS piece for far less than that.
