I was a little bored today so I decided to try some Maguires intstant detail,The wax you spray on and wipe off. I had a bottle of thier new NXT stuff in with all my car cleaning stuff and decided to give it s go on my Guitars. Spray it on, let it dry to a haze and wipe it off and revel in the shiniest most deep looking finish your guitar has ever had!!!!!
I'm telling you the stuff is phenomenal, my guitars have neever looked so good.

Mothers makes it as well and I,m sure A few other premium auto wax companies make it.
Try it, YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED,unless you play relicas that have had the crap beat out of thier finish.

Re: Forget Guitar polish!!!!!!!!!!

I use practically the entire Maguire line when refinishing, and Instant Detail is a definite alternative to guitar Polish if the axe isn´t grimy and sweaty..... I personally prefer to have a cleaning agent in my polish as well for those reasons. But on a clean axe that´s just "dull", it will definitely work miracles ;)

Re: Forget Guitar polish!!!!!!!!!!

Fender sells a "Mist and Wipe" polish which is made by Meguiers. From what I can tell, it's the exact same stuff that I've used on my cars for years.

Re: Forget Guitar polish!!!!!!!!!!

As long as the stuff isn't silicon-based, you can use it to your liking :)

Hmm. Cool. I had this "love potion" whatever stuff by Ernie Ball from Strings and Beyond this one time, and after I used it and put it in the light, my jaw dropped (and so did everyone's jaws in the band I was in at the time). So many useful products, so little time....

Re: Forget Guitar polish!!!!!!!!!!

Is there a sticky or other thread someplace on how to clean and polish your guitar top to bottom?

Re: Forget Guitar polish!!!!!!!!!!

Using Google you should be able fto find at least a few dozen tutorials ;)

Re: Forget Guitar polish!!!!!!!!!!

+1 on the Maguiers products - great for your car and your axe. The Instant detail is a great product when I don't need to give my guitars a full clean and polish.

Whats the Story with silicone based polish?

silicone molecules trap themselves in the finish, and soak through sometimes. This can make refinishing a pain in the ass. The finish will never set right, so there's always a chance of you messing up everything you refinished. Same with using a chemical agent to strip a finish. It soaks into the wood and will cause the finish to never set right.

Anything Containing silicone should be kept as far away from guitars as possible.

Re: Forget Guitar polish!!!!!!!!!!

Another cleaning product I discovered when I used to detail cars is Murphy's Oil Soap. There's nothing better for cleaning vinyl upholstery and amp tolex.
It gets into all the crevices and erases dirt.

I'll usually pull the chassis out of an amp, then used a sponge with warm water and Murphy's Oil Soap on the tolex. Then, wipe it dry with a towel. After that, I'll wipe it down with a lemon oil soaked rag, and the amp will look like new.

Simply put...Silicone is a contaminant to most finishes. Although it's found in some furniture polishes, It's primary function it to be a lubricant. Imagine pouring some 10-W40 on your guitar.:eek13: :no1:

Hmmm...the WHOLE REASON I started to play guitar was to ATTRACT as many dual silicone nodules as possible. I will allow most approved silicone masses full access to rub on any of my guitars...provided I'm allowed to watch. :smokin:

The really cool thing is that you can use string winders to tune up a V6 or V8 engine.
