Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Bridge bucker

I am thinking along the lines of modded JB. First, underwind it to about 15k. I've spoken to a few guys on other forums who have done this themselves. They suggest it smoothes out the upper mid bump. Next degauss the magnet a bit. I think dual rows of screw coils would be pretty cool

Neck bucker
As an alternative, a neck humbucker that is as mud free in the bottom end and articulate in the op end as a PGn but just a bit hotter

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Actually, after thinking about it, I want a hotter bridge Alnico II pickup. Think Lite Ash Strat, but so that you can play metal from the bridge. I'd prefer, basically, a Quarter Pound pickup for bridge, for strat, true single coil, but Alnico II magnets (same big size, however). Basically, the closest to a heavy metal pickup for strat (bridge only) but Alnico II. Can it be done? :D We could call it the Custom Custom Staggered :D

Rail version of a Phat Cat? (Call it the Dog Sled)

Cool Rails Tele bridge?

The only one that comes to my mind right now, since I have a Brobucker already, is a Lil' Custom Custom for Strat and Tele.

These ideas I like.

The Rail will never fail.

My biggest wish is either a Cool Rails for Telecaster, or, a Lil' Jazz pickup. It's such a great pickup, I want a baby one in the neck of one of my Strats.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Maybe a humbucker in a P-90 soapbar cover, something that sounds smooth, but has a nice growl to it, like the Alnico II Pro. I haven't seen many humbuckers in P-90 size.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Wow!! What a long read.

I just want to say I'm TOTALLY in (did I just say totally?).

Well, as for my input, I would like to see abridge humbucker (I like the modded JB idea) or a nice strat neck single coil (something with some vintage vibe but a little hotter to match an h/s/s setup and take gain well). I'll definatly be participating in this one!

I've been VERY happy with my TB-5 so I have confidence in SD! I'd lie kto hear what he thinks as well.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

I don't usually pipe in on too many pickup threads here, but this is my suggestion:

I'd like to see Seymour improve on the "P-90 in a humbucker housing" (sorry, but the Phat Cats don't sound like P90s). Something modeled after the real vintage Gibson pickups that had that really nice bite to them, but still had the clarity and it'd be really cool to see the rare "Alnico V/ Staple type pickup" in a humbucker format (for the folks that want the '54 LP Custom Black Beauty sounds in a humbucker guitar).

It's definitely something that would be a far departure than anything Duncan has done so far.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

I'm all for a slightly underwound JB. Keep the tone just loose some compression. also an aged alnico 5 magnet.

An A2 JB like the original one should be also nice...

Nah, I'm still for the Tele in a humbucker... neber been done before AFAIK.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Make a bucker with the specs of a Jaguar s/c and a Mustang s/c combined!! Make it 4-conductor

The jaguar sc is pretty much a strat, as is a mustang sc. The designs the same at least. The pots make the difference.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

ceramic humbucker, 13.5k, allen key pole pieces, available in all shades of black.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Yo, I don't have the money right now, could I buy the same thing after this is over for the same price?

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

I haven't tried the Brobucker, but if it's what everyone says it is here at the forum I think it would be a great pup for me and my style of play. With that in mind it would be just as cool to have a matching pup for the neck. I've been using the Jazz and the '59 in the necks of my humbucker guitars, but I'm always mixing in treble from the bridge pup to EQ the tone. I'd much prefer having a hot neck pickup that delivers a tone that has more crispness/treble yet still maintaining great bass tone. So I guess my vote would go to designing a hot neck Brobucker that'd stand on it's own anytime whether used for rhythm or lead.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

wow, never thought of an A2 JB. I'm in!!!

No! no! you got it all wrong!!!!! You want a Tele bridge in a humbucker... :laugh2:

Edit: actually I'm also in for the A2 JB... but won't it be a little too mid heavey though? the JB is a middy pickups as is with the the A5...

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Guys, you could make an A2 JB for $70 new with out any effort.

We're getting a shot at a custom shop pickup.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

I'd be up for a Brobucker or a '78 for the bridge position. I've been looking to try both pickups and I have yet to hear anything bad about either.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

How about a factory-potted and slightly overwound Seth Lover set? I think a lot of guys shy away from the Seth because of concerns with feedback.
Sounds like a great idea. That's one of the main reasons I shy away from it. Maybe with a four-conductor cable as well?

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

like jeffb, id like to see the ultimate distortion class bridge pup, or the ultimate neck PAF (which sucks because i just bought a PG haha)
