Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

You mean like a DropSonic? It's a good idea ,but i don't know if it can be causing problems between SD and DMZ!They have the Patent for it!

Yeah, like the Drop Sonic or the old Mega Drive, but perhaps a thinner blade like the Dimebucker instead of the thicker blade DiMarzio uses.

Yeah that would be uber versatile ofcourse!
thta's the second best idea after PATB i think. At least for my tastes!
But nothing can beat something like that in Versatility!

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

I feel like a more common looking pickup. PA-Tb1, 2 and 3 are there..what more does one need? Same with Custom btw..but than I do not use Customs really..Anyways..my feeling , again (sorry if I sound like doubleposting), says there's a gap between 10-14 kOhms....The Screamin Demon is killer at 10kOhms..but might be more versatile if tweaked? Like rais it's power to 11 or 12 and get a fitting pickup in there..also..scatterwound and maybe mismatched coils..for the blade lover,,one blade, but I prefer studs or hexscrews. The magnet could be aged for extra warmth but maybe A5 for the power? Just some thoughts..and again, I think we need to pull in a pro ..as we might end up with a turd! -help-

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

How would one add chunk to a Screamin Demon?

I thought about this yesterday... wondered if by overwinding a demon and keeping it A5 if you could thicken it up a little while retaining its clarity and punch. A slightly hotter and meatier Demon would be an awesome pickup... I just wouldn't know what to suggest to make that kind of thing happen.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

is a multiple magnet pickup even obtainable? like, ceramic, a2, and a5 all in the same pickup? i said that like last week or something and nobody really responded to it...so if its impossible, i'll move on to a new idea

That would be an awesome pup too. A nice idea would be, to start from the base Demon sound. Focus it more on the lows, low mids while retain its clarity, punch, tightness and all the good things it has.....and why not improve them (if possible).

True this would be a great pup..but This is not somethig I personally would want...TONALLY. OF course MAJORITY WINS... And the pup that the majority wants should be made...

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Yeah, a thicker Demon sounds like a good idea. It is too much like an ice pick for me in stock configuration (even with double rows of fillisters). If it was thicker it could be cool.

Of course, the JB lite would rock too.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Good call on the Demon.

What I did was just put all hex on the low end, and all screws on the high strings.

Solved a lot of the problem. Got rid of some glassyness and made it tighter, more appropriate for heavy metal on the wound strings and thicker on the leads.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

I played a Sreamin' demon in a Floyd strat with alder/maple combo and it was not too bright at all. The guitar has a full, strong sound acoustically and the pickup had all that with it. I was expecting it way brighter from what I read here. But it had good grind and chunky.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

but a rounder Demon was the idea that launched the brobucker..."10K alnico 5"..interesting.

maybe they should re-do the Brobucker?

That was what I first thought too, since it is an Official Seymour Duncan Forum Pickup. There is also chatter about it all over this site, rife with people who weren't able to be apart of the first run (check out a quick search). Since it was an undeniable hit, I also assumed it would be a perfect choice for a 2nd Run/Version of an official Forum Pickup that has a history here. If you do a Google search on Brobucker it pops up so many links to various sites & people interested and asking about it who have "heard it through the grapevine."

Alas "the Majority" did not opt for it in the initial stages of # 2's development, and it was decided by the person who took the reigns on the polls not to include it.

Small uprisings have accumulated on the grounds as dissent wafts through steady circles, but moreso for a CS Single Coil.

The Brobucker is a veritable legend in the making, and from what I've read is deserved of such a title.

An interesting "newer" voiced pickup is what the majority is chanting for now amongst the voices of the group. But if you're quiet and listen, plus read some the posts, even those who are apt for the change & want the more Modern "Cutting" Pickup have their own voiced reservations. Yet still they stick with the main band of brothers at hand.

All is not lost. And in the end there really is no loss.

If you go to the custom shop link on the seymour duncan main page, it's one of the custom shop humbuckers seymour duncan offers. Correct me if i'm wrong, but I heard that the brobucker's wind was based heavily on the s-deco wind.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

All of you calling the demon icepicky...

What the hell kind of guitar do you have it in? Either you have a defective pickup or your guitar must have some nasty wood.

In my kramer it sounds smooth and almost vowel like. It gets fatter the higher you play on the register.

It's very smooth but has an underlaying grind to it. It isn't a very full sounding pickup though when compared with other pickups.
