Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

What about a 2-5 humbucker? Alnico 5 on the bottom 3 strings for a tighter low end, and alnico 2 on the top 3 for a warmer high end. Wound to around Pearly Gates or '78 hotness. That would be cool.:headbang: :rocket:

Yeah, we're exploring this idea in the other thread (the poll for DC resistance).

+1 on that

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

I'd really like a 12K humbucker that sounds like a cross between a Full Shred and an old Gibson Dirty Fingers...but with an A2 magnet. I know it sounds weird at first, but I think that would be amazing!

I start to feel we creatin a monster slowly but securely! Haha.
Evan said we could get anything we like, but I kinda feel we have the best already, EVH/78! So..maybe an idea is, don't shoot me for being lame, get more of those but maybe in a hotter variation? 9,5-10,5 range? 4 conductor obvioulsy? Or if that is mechanically possible in a Custom version say around 14k Ohms? But with similar specifications? (and heck, why not an aged A5 instead of A2?) Of that pickup I would try to get 4 if can, otherwise I doubt I will order unknown pickups in that quantity?

I still would like a JB lite.. little less out put with a tighter bottom.

I think this is a great idea. The idea behind the Brobucker was to fill a spot in the Duncan line that really wasn't there. I think that is really where we need to head with this pickup. I think a lot of people on the forum would like a JB with a few changes -- tighter bottom and maybe a little less of the high mids.

Exactly.. I too agree with that... a few tewaks to it.. is what most people are caling for in the JB.. so why not..

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

I missed the Brobucker, but regardless, I’m in on this one.

I’d love to see something along the lines of a Cool Rails for Tele bridge, but I’m afraid that a tele bridge pickup wouldn’t allow enough bros to get involved (unless they all become enlightened in the next couple weeks).

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Let me know when specs are finalized, then I´ll decide if I want i or not ;)

Unfortunately, that´s where I see the greatest issue. For example on the JCF there are constant ideas tossed up for limited runs, and it always looks promising for hte first page or so....

But then everyone starts up with the things they want different, and the run dies.....

Maybe it would make sense to give somebody "neutral" a bit of a "leading" role in this so as to keep some kind of coherence? ;)

*edit* ROFL, apparently Mike has already taken on this role. Kudos to him :beerchug:

+1. The Brobucker had a particular design in mind. My concern is this will end up a 5K active 'bucker with a polished brass cover (or some other ppor design). But hopefully not... :onder:

My main concern is that well end up with basically a custom 5.

Hopefully even if that happens we'll at least go for a fat rails design, then I'd be for it.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Since there was a lot of hoopla about the Alnico 8 magnet last year, why don't we put Seymour on a mission to give us the ultimate A8 pickup??? Instead of simply putting an Alnico 8 magnet in a Custom, find the optimum combination to make Alnico 8 sound perfect! Some thought the Custom 8 had a bit too much string pull, so maybe back it down a little?

If it turned out to be the hottest and most toneful rock/metal pickup, it'd sell like crazy as a new addition to the Duncan line!

Do it yourself , it will never come up in this offer .

I missed it too... If the Brobucker ends up being offered again like it was instead of this I will take it for sure... Again, IO would not mind a nice Tele pup made.. hope fully in the future... this time around again we are heading for a bridge pup. I am sure in it.. provided it is not Too Hot.. medium Hot Vintage is what i am for..... JB LITE

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

i dont think a vintage JB is the answer...but a more modern JB with the same awesome harmonics with tightened lows and maybe a tad thicker with dual blades.... this would be awesome like a super JB....the same alnico 5 would be cool too.

maybe an overwound custom 5 with dual blades can make this happen...it would have a more defined bottom end, more midrange, and a nice top end

That sounds like a cool idea, but what about just one blade and the other side with adjustable pole pieces?

You mean like a DropSonic? It's a good idea ,but i don't know if it can be causing problems between SD and DMZ!They have the Patent for it!

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Evan told me....

you can have whatever you want as long as you want to pay for it. some things will raise the cost, magnet type, poll type etc etc.

i sent him a PM about the 1/2 rail 1/2 regular adjustable poll idea to see if it can be done.
