FORUM JAM - Surf is up!

Re: FORUM JAM - Surf is up!

Well I've had a go and put something together. I've gone for a clean sound that I hope sounds a bit 'tele' for the first section and gone for a 59n in the second section.
All in all it lasts about a minute.
I'm a bit scared about sending it off as I'm a surf virgin and don't really know what I'm doing. Hopefully someone like Curly who remembers the scene will like it - then I'll be well happy.

Re: FORUM JAM - Surf is up!

I've downloaded the track - so what do I do now?? Do I have to record it to my digital recorder or what?? help help???

Re: FORUM JAM - Surf is up!

Yea ^^^^^^

That is a very cool backing track but I don't understand the procedure.
1) Convert to WAV
2) Pull it into Cakewalk
3) Play lead part
4) Save and send back updated MP3 to you?

Great job! Honestly, I have absolutely no idea how'd I approach this.... never solo'd over anything remotely similar to this.

Re: FORUM JAM - Surf is up!

That is the fun part, challenge challenge challenge, you can never stretch your ears too much, I do it as much as I can since my ears and less than functional wrist sometimes makes me wonder if I should hang the bugging thing up.
I'll record something next week with clean tones over this one...twang twang yeah!!

Re: FORUM JAM - Surf is up!

It's a harder track to play to than it at first appears (well I find it so), but it's great to play stuff you don't usually play. I've gone clean too.

What's wrong with the wrist, Rid?

Me too!!

How do you convert the mpg3 file to a wav file?
Then when you have done your bit how do you reverse the wav file to mpg3?

Anybody??

I use MusicMacth Jukebox to convert files. Try that out.

Thanks for this just converted the file and it's like 7 times larger!! I suppose you just do a section?? I'll have to read the frigging manual of my recorder and try and sort something out.

The track is great and I have just played my acoustic guitar but will attempt something else later on

It hurts badly sometimes because I used to repair and setup guitars in a store, it was very hard on it, and I also landed on it one time too many when I was dirtbiking in my younger days.
All in all it has gone weak on me, when it gets really bad a lump appears on top of the wrist, almost make movement impossible without serious hurt, but I refuse to give up playing.
Sorry for OT reply, I'm going to set up a nice clean sound, hmm gotta hook up our springreverb in our studio :burnout:
Wish I had a Tele right now :laugh2:

Hey now I was a little young but I am a D Dale fan and I really like the Ventures.. I love their version of Apache, simple but beautiful :) My band covers "Walk Don't Run" :)

Re: FORUM JAM - Surf is up!

nope :D hehe Wattage made the rules.. sorry bro I will post other stuff if you want.. let's make it a suprise bash as Wattage intended.

Re: FORUM JAM - Surf is up!

OK sorry if I was a little to vague about how I want the track.

I want it in MP3 format preferably 192k or higher. Musicmatch works great for converting wav>mp3 and mp3>wav.

What'll probably work best is if you send me a low res mp3 maybe 64kps with the whole thing you've done over the backing track and then send me just your part with no backing at the higher res and I can drop it on to the backing track and mix it so that it is some what uniform.

*****You can send the whole part you've done with backing track at the better res, that seems to be working out best so far. It is easier to bland parts together than sync them it seems.*****

Send your MP3 track to

bonscott@portjeff.net

And make sure you include your SD Nickname just incase I am not sure who you are by your email.

****I added a WAV download to the initial post

When I have done these in the past, it was a little confusing for me to queue some of the solos in the right place. I suggest sending 2 mp3s, one with the solo and backing, one with just the solo.

The solo with the backing track will help Wattage to know your exact beginning point :) Then he can insert the solo alone, in to the song.

Re: FORUM JAM - Surf is up!

well i recorded mine just as if it was by itself, so i dont kno how you would be able to fit it into the jam anyways...... i used the entire 1:40 that i solo'd over......ahhh.... so if you cant fit it into the jam thats ok, i wont feel too bad about it.....its just that i feel good about the take i made so id like to let everybody hear it in some way or another, whether its seprately after the whole jam is put out or whether its fitted into the jam somehow
